Norstella is a premier and critical global life sciences data and AI solutions provider dedicated to improving patient access to life‑saving therapies. Norstella supports pharmaceutical and biotech companies across the full drug development lifecycle — from pipeline to patient. Our mission is simple: to help our clients bring therapies to market faster and more efficiently, ultimately impacting patient lives.
We are looking for a Mid to Senior Software Engineer to join our team. The primary focus of this role is building modern web‑based products, while also contributing to the maintenance and evolution of existing applications built on the .NET Framework and C#. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with the ability to work autonomously, translating business requirements into working software without the need for constant guidance.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain web applications using modern frameworks and best practices
- Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment and monitoring
- Maintain and improve existing products built on .NET Framework and C#, ensuring their stability and gradual modernisation where appropriate
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to understand requirements and propose technical solutions
- Write clean, testable, and well‑documented code
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving team standards and practices
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support reliable and frequent releases
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across both modern and legacy systems
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language; C# is strongly preferred. Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming principles and design patterns.
- Web Development: Hands‑on experience developing modern web applications using well‑established frameworks such as Angular, Vue, React, or Blazor. Proficient in HTML, JavaScript (or TypeScript), and CSS. Familiarity with RESTful API design and consumption. Understanding of responsive design and cross‑browser compatibility.
- Version Control: Proficient use of Git for version control, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Understanding of cloud‑native concepts such as managed services, containerisation, and scalable architectures.
- CI/CD & DevOps: Experience with automated pipelines for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
- Ability to turn requirements into working software with autonomy -- not simply executing a predefined set of instructions, but actively analysing problems, making informed decisions, and delivering solutions independently.
- Comfortable working in Agile or iterative environments.
- Experience with Windows desktop application development in C# (e.g., WPF, WinForms).
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with automated testing practices (unit, integration, end‑to‑end).
- Knowledge of application monitoring and observability tools.
- Exposure to microservices or distributed system architectures.
- Understanding of security best practices in web application development.
The successful candidate will primarily work on building new products based on web technologies. In addition, they will be responsible for maintaining and supporting existing products built on the .NET Framework and C#. This requires a pragmatic mindset, someone who is comfortable navigating both modern and legacy codebases, and who can make sound judgement calls about when to modernise versus when to maintain.
Key Areas of Work- Build the next generation of products: develop modern, web‑based forecasting tools that move our offering beyond Excel‑based workflows, delivering a more scalable, accessible, and maintainable platform for our clients.
- Enhance and extend existing software: implement new features, respond to client requests, and continuously improve the products our customers already rely on day to day.
- Address technical debt on FC+ add‑ins: systematically tackle the accumulated tech debt across the FC+ suite, improving reliability, performance, and maintainability across the board.
Together, these activities serve a larger purpose. By strengthening our existing products and investing in modern web‑based alternatives, we create the foundation to scale our software offering well beyond its current capacity. Today, our ability to deliver new capabilities and serve a growing client base is constrained by the limitations of legacy tooling and stretched development resources. Adding dedicated engineering capacity in these areas will allow us to accelerate product development, reduce our dependency on ageing technologies, and ultimately unlock the potential to grow our portfolio into new markets and use cases that we simply cannot reach today.
What We Value- Ownership: taking responsibility for the quality and delivery of your work.
- Curiosity: a genuine interest in learning new technologies and improving existing skills.
- Pragmatism: choosing the right tool for the job rather than chasing the latest trend.
- Communication: the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Collaboration: working effectively within a team while being capable of independent work.
- Bold, Passionate, Mission‑First.
- Integrity, Truth, Reality.
- Kindness, Empathy, Grace.
- Resilience, Mettle, Perseverance.
- Humility, Gratitude, Learning.
- 25 days annual leave, 4 days for volunteering and a personal day.
- 5% pension match.
- Group Life Assurance (100% employer funded).
- Group Income Protection (100% employer funded).
- Other voluntary benefits such as: Dental, Cash Plan, PMI Excess Cover, Health Screening & Critical Illness.
