We are Norse Sky, the Yorkshire-based themed set builders and prop makers. Our work is rooted in the attractions, theatre, TV and film industries with the core of our projects being completed within the UK. We specialise in all aspects of set building, scenic construction, prop making and art department processes, with in-house CNC machining, laser cutting and large format 3D printing capabilities. By working closely and collaboratively with our clients, our small but talented team of dedicated designers and technicians create high-quality, unique environments, experiences, sets and props for a wide range of exciting projects. As a Technical Designer you are responsible for the design and development of our projects. Your focus is taking our projects from a creative concept to production ready. Using 3D and 2D CAD software you produce detailed models, technical drawings, assembly guides and CNC ready files. Working closely with the wider team you facilitate and maintain design intent and project vision.
Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain design briefs and scope of work
- Generate technical 3D models, 2D drawing packs and assembly guides
- Specify and quantify materials and processes for construction
- Design and program CNC machine and 3D printers
- Survey sites and prepare accurate layout drawings
- Support the generation of quotes and costings
- Champion client briefs and design within budget
- Collaborate with internal departments
- Meet with, and present to clients
- Self manage and record work load, schedule and deliverables
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in 2D & 3D technical design, preferably in the events, entertainment or the attractions industry
- A strong portfolio demonstrating technical work in themed entertainments
- Proven experience in creating 3D CAD models and technical drawing packs
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of materials, fabrication and finishing processes used within the industry
- Excellent knowledge of design for CNC, Timber, MDF & Ply construction
- Working knowledge of design for sheet metal and welded frames
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD or Solidworks
- Working knowledge of Sketchup
- Working knowledge of design and programming for CNC
- Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment
- Full UK driving licence and the willingness to travel

- Primary place of work, Norse Sky HQ, BD20 7BW
- 40hrs per week, Monday to Friday 0830 - 1700
