Senior Chartered Building Surveyor Exeter Up to £58,948.53 (Dependent on experience) 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9-5 (With flexible working hours) South West Norse is part of the Norse Group, a national, award-winning property consultancy delivering high profile, and inspiring developments to a range of public and private sector clients.We are delighted to be able to recruit a new Senior Chartered Building Surveyor into the team on a full time, permanent basis working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. South West Norse adopts modern working practices. We have a refreshed and modern open plan office on the outskirts of Exeter with very good access off the M5 corridor making for an easy commute. Equally we employ an agile and flexible working strategy allowing staff to work some days at home and flex their working patterns when required. The Role: As a Senior Chartered Building Surveyor, you will be working alongside expert and multi-disciplined property professionals. You will be expected to offer technical and business advice regarding building surveying and maintenance across several areas, including condition, asbestos, access audits and fire risk assessments. Due to the diverse nature of our business, you will have the opportunity to get involved with a range of different projects, undertaking a number of duties including; Our Active Projects: Our current workload includes a comprehensive programme of both capital and revenue repair works. Projects span a diverse range of building types and construction forms, including listed and historically significant buildings such as the Devon County Council Corporate Campus, as well as other corporate properties. The portfolio includes buildings with thatched roofs, traditional slate coverings, as well as modern metal-clad industrial units. We also deliver an annual programme of school repairs and improvements, which typically includes fire compartmentation works, re-roofing, insulation upgrades, wall repairs, and redecoration. Our farm building projects often involve Decent Homes works, including re-roofing, replacement windows, kitchen and bathroom renewals, and the installation of specialist drainage treatment systems such as septic and biological tanks. Some schemes involve complex structural repairs, delivered with support from our in-house engineers, and may include foundation works, roof structure repairs, and lintel replacements. Project values typically range from a few thousand pounds up to £500,000. There are also opportunities to undertake condition surveys and dilapidations assessments. The variety of work offers broad exposure across the profession and would suit both junior surveyors working towards APC completion and senior surveyors managing more complex and technical projects. Team and Working Environment: We operate as part of a multidisciplinary professional team, with in-house structural, civil, and MEP engineers, alongside architects, project managers, estate surveyors, and fellow building surveyors delivering projects collaboratively. Technical due diligence surveys for both commercial and residential properties Preparing and undertaking specifications, drawings and risk assessments for a number of new build and refurbishments projects Carrying out site surveys in relation to condition, undertaking schedules of condition, dilapidations, measured surveys and defect analysis Leading quality assurance across projects and services, ensuring client needs are met and relevant legislation is adhered to Collating and presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders, offering solutions and recommendations where required Our SuccessfulCandidate: Our successful candidate will have extensive previous experience within a similar role and industry, supported by: Professional Chartered Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) [or equivalent], and be working towards (or prepared to work towards) Chartered status, Ability to foster professional relationships with new and existing clients Proven experience in a similar building surveying role Ability to work independently with minimal support or within a large multi-disciplinary team Previously worked on a variety of new build and refurbishment projects Knowledge of the Building Regulations, and other relevant construction and building surveying related legislation Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with all levels of internal and external parties Ability to work independently with minimal support or within a large multi-disciplinary team.
