Introduction/background:
The client is a World leader in aircraft power systems, controllers and displays who supplies to the majority of Tier 1 airframers. This supplier works with a privately owned machinist with an estimated annual turnover of Β£12m (45-50% dependency). This supplier has been a long-term supplier and mostly supply small and medium sized cases and small machined parts. Recently several issues have disrupted supply and made obtaining accurate delivery commits challenging. These issues relate to a poorly managed ERP transition in 2024, resource constraints, single points of failure, lack of processes and daily management and management of sub-tiers.
The job role:
A part-time resource will focus on partnering with the MD to stand up a team to manage the tactical recovery and coach management of project plans and effective communicaition, while implementing, structure, processes, and daily management to ensure a sustained recovery. The primary objective is to stabilize operations and partner with the senior leadership team to ensure a sustained recovery.
This role will emphasize hands-on management, process standardisation, and drive accountability to recover operational performance and meet requirements. The issues are not solely of the suppliers making and the resolution will require careful management.
Key tasks

Partner with the MD to help set the direction of the leadership team
Operational Recovery
: Identify and address immediate bottlenecks and inefficiencies to stabilize manufacturing operations.
Process Setup
: Develop and implement structured workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and clear roles and responsibilities for daily operations.
Daily Management:
Establish and lead daily management routines, including production tracking, issue resolution, and prioritization of tasks.
Reporting to Tier 1
& establishing confidence in the supplier management:
Daily Reporting: Provide updates on critical recovery actions, operational performance, and risks.
Weekly Reporting: Deliver comprehensive updates on progress in process setup, operational recovery, and overall performance metrics.
Accountability and Structure
: Drive accountability across the supplier teams by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to processes.
Coach the teams
in how to manage projects and communicate to customers

Experienced Interim MD / Operations director
Outstanding communication skills
Complex manufacturing (aerospace/automotive) and senior operation leadership experience
