The Director, Head of Alliance Management (In-licenced portfolio), will lead Norgine's Alliance Management team and ensure Norgine is able to deliver its commitment to being a "Partner of Choice" for Europe, Australia and New Zealand. You will develop Norgine's Alliance Management capability to ensure that strategic partnerships are leveraged to maximise the value of our in-licenced assets; this will mean working cross-functionally to set strategy, optimise governance, track performance, mitigate risk and navigate issues. You will lead several alliances for key strategic assets and serve as the main point of contact for those alliance partners, both internally and externally. You will be responsible for all aspects of the alliance management lifecycle, from late-stage deal activity, through integration/alliance launch and governance setup, to ongoing management, execution in accordance with Definitive Agreement and ultimate exit.

Externally, you will facilitate a smooth governance process with each partner company, ensuring that operational and relationship risks and issues are identified and minimised or mitigated, and that all contract and reporting obligations are met. Internally, you will work closely with the senior stakeholders responsible for asset strategy – specifically the VP Head of Global Product Strategy and the Head of Medical Strategy – to ensure they remain abreast of key partner activities and that key opportunities to drive collaboration with our partners, driving asset/alliance value, are identified.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Development of Norgine's alliance management capability: Identify and build the alliance management capabilities that will ensure Norgine is able to deliver its commitment to being a "Partner of Choice" for Europe, Australia and New Zealand; this will involve developing and implementing processes and capabilities that enable delivery of asset strategy through partnerships, ensure operational excellence, and upskill the team to deliver in an environment with an ever-increasing focus on positive, trust-based and productive partnerships.
  • Strategic alliance leadership and internal collaboration: Lead future-focused strategic planning for each alliance in collaboration with the Head of Geographic Expansion and Partnerships, VP, Head of Global Product Strategy, Head of Medical Strategy and VP, Corporate Development; this should include: Liaison with Corporate & Business Development during late-stage licensing Due Diligence to interpret draft agreements into robust operational plans; input into draft Agreements to ensure appropriate Alliance Management requirements are considered. Facilitation of a strategic planning forum to ensure that opportunities to maximise asset value through the strategic partnership are prioritised. Continuous monitoring and assessment of partner situation and activities, along with communication of risks and implications to relevant stakeholders within Norgine. Proactive recommendation of opportunities to increase the value of the asset through the strategic alliance, which may include opportunities to drive sales, manage product lifecycle, or invest in clinical or technical development. Development of a strategic plan for each alliance that is regularly reviewed, updated and shared internally. Driving the topics that support execution of the strategic plan onto the agendas of the right governance committees or decision-making forums.
  • Relationship management: Serve as the main point of contact for each licensor in the assigned portfolio; manage queries, and ensure the relationship remains positive, productive and mutually beneficial. Lead on all other relationship matters, including soliciting internal/legal advice and guidance, and implementing remedial actions to address relationship issues.
  • Governance: Optimise Norgine's alliance governance process across the portfolio to deliver all aspects of alliance governance, including scheduling joint steering committee meetings, preparing agendas and meeting minutes, driving internal alignment prior to meetings, and ensuring actions are followed-up.
  • Contract management: In each alliance, ensure both parties deliver against obligations in the license agreement, including those relating to license fees, milestones, supply and performance. Lead negotiations with the partner on agreement amendments, extensions and terminations. Develop and track appropriate KPIs conducting regular performance progress assessments and reports to Senior Management.
  • Project and operational management: Ensure effective operation of Norgine's portfolio of in-licenced assets by ensuring consistent leadership of internal and external alliance operations. This will include appropriate communications (e.g. through leadership of an internal alliance management meeting series), anticipation of issues, facilitation of conflict resolution, issue escalation, and collaborative business problem solving. Where necessary, act in a project management capacity to ensure alliance related projects are managed and delivered on time and on budget.
  • Represent Norgine's business: Communicate Norgine's views to the partner, understand the partner's interests, and seek win:win solutions that preserve or enhance value for both parties.
KEY COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPS:

Sits alongside voting committee members and is responsible for full alliance management support of Joint Steering Committees (JMCs), Joint Management Committees (JMCs) meetings in line with contractual obligations.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Acts as a matrix leader across all business functions to ensure alliance success. Drives strategic alignment with respect to each alliance in collaboration with the VP, Head of Global Product Strategy and the Head of Medical Strategy. Influences without authority: ensuring Executive Leadership Team (ELT) colleagues act within agreed governance frameworks. Facilitates communication of strategic plans and key opportunities/risks/issues to senior leadership where appropriate.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong pharmaceutical industry experience in business development, alliance management, integration/transformation office or closely related capacity.
  • Alliance management experience with an in-licensed, late-stage development asset, in addition to experience with commercial-stage assets.
  • Strategic-thinker: experience in pharmaceutical product or portfolio strategy an advantage.
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills – able to influence Exec Leadership Stakeholders and wide-ranging cross-functional stakeholders across functions and countries.
  • Post-graduate business qualification an advantage.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Highly organised.
  • Extremely capable at multi-tasking.
  • Able to operate independently.
  • Strong IT and presentation skills.
