Reserve Assistants
Norfolk Wildlife Trust – Nature Conservation Directorate
Pay range: £25,472 per annum (Permanent, Full‑time)
Locations:
- West Norfolk – Roydon Common, East Winch Common, Narborough Railway Line
- North Norfolk – Cley, Salthouse Marshes, Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve
Role overview: Two Reserve Assistant positions – one based in the West Norfolk Reserves team and one in the Coastal team. The roles involve direct habitat restoration and management of heathlands, fens, woodlands, chalk grasslands, reedbeds, grazing marshes, shoreline, and dunes.
Responsibilities
- Carry out practical habitat management, visitor infrastructure works, livestock management, machinery maintenance, and site wardening.
- For the Coastal role: survey and monitor bird populations and other species at Cley.
- Work within close-knit teams, maintaining effective communication with colleagues and the public.
Qualifications
- Good knowledge of habitat management techniques.
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and members of the public.
- Interest in species and habitat management; ability to work outdoors.
- Experience or training in chainsaw use (West Norfolk role); brush‑cutter, tractor operation, livestock handling, and first aid advantage for both roles.
- Coastal role advantage: experience in monitoring of bird populations, working with volunteers, species protection work.
- Experience working on a nature reserve or similar.
