Norfolk Wildlife Trust\’s Nature Conservation team are looking for two Reserve Assistants. One to be based in our West Norfolk Reserves team, the other to join our Coastal Team. Reserve Assistant x2 Contract type: Permanent Working hours: Full time Salary: £25,472 per annum Locations: West Norfolk – Roydon Common, East Winch Common and Narborough Railway Line North Norfolk – Cley and Salthouse Marshes and Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve Norfolk Wildlife Trust is the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country and Norfolk’s largest environmental charity, committed to the protection and enhancement of Norfolk’s wildlife and wild places. We currently have two Reserve Assistant vacancies in our Nature Conservation Directorate. The first role is based in our West Norfolk Reserves team, working at some of the UK’s most important wildlife sites, including Roydon Common, East Winch Common and Narborough Railway Line. These reserves include an impressive range of habitats, and you would be directly involved in restoration and management of heathlands, fens, woodlands and chalk grasslands. The second role is on the iconic North Norfolk coast, based primarily at Cley but also working at Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve. These sites include reedbed, grazing marshes, shoreline and dunes. We are seeking enthusiastic and practical people to carry out all aspects of practical habitat management, as well as visitor infrastructure works, livestock management, machinery maintenance and site wardening. The coastal role will also carry out much of the surveying and monitoring of birds and other species at Cley. The successful candidates will have a good knowledge of habitat management techniques, as well as effective communication skills, both with colleagues and members of the public. An interest in species and habitat management is essential, as well as the ability to work outdoors. The posts will work within close-knit teams and an ability to work well with colleagues is vital. The successful candidates should have experience of working on a nature reserve or similar. Experience and/or training in chainsaw use is essential for the West Norfolk role and brush-cutter, tractor operation, livestock handling and first aid would be an advantage for both roles. For the Coastal role experience in undertaking monitoring of bird populations, working with volunteers and species protection work would be an advantage.
