Help shape how people experience and care for one of England’s most special coastal landscapes.

About the role

The Norfolk coast is a place people love to visit - but increasing visitor numbers, climate change and recreational pressures can have significant impacts on its wildlife, habitats and landscapes. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Visitor Engagement Officer to help us tackle these challenges and develop a coordinated, landscape-scale approach to visitor management across the Norfolk Coast Protected Landscape. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a partnership bringing together the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path National Trail, and The Wash and North Norfolk Marine Protected Area Network. You’ll work with landowners, conservation organisations, tourism businesses, local authorities and other partners to develop engaging communications and campaigns that help visitors understand the places they are visiting and the simple actions they can take to protect them.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead development and delivery of a coordinated visitor communications and engagement programme across the Norfolk coast.
  • Develop creative, accessible and evidence-based campaigns promoting responsible recreation and protecting sensitive wildlife, habitats and landscapes.
  • Build strong relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, creating consistent messaging and a shared approach to visitor pressures.
  • Lead the Visitor Pressures Working Group, bringing partners together to identify priorities and deliver practical action.
  • Build on successful initiatives such as ‘Know Before You Go’ and species-focused campaigns.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation approaches to understand whether communications are changing visitor behaviour.
  • Share learning and best practice across the partnership and help shape future investment and funding.

About you

You’ll be an excellent communicator who can bring people together around a shared goal. You’ll be comfortable moving between strategic partnership work and practical delivery - whether that’s developing a campaign, analysing visitor data, managing a supplier or talking to visitors at an event. We’re looking for someone with:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different audiences.
  • Experience of developing and delivering projects, campaigns or engagement activity.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills and confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take responsibility for delivering outcomes.
  • An understanding of environmental issues including nature recovery, climate change and sustainable tourism.
  • A genuine interest in the Norfolk coast and the landscapes, wildlife and communities that make it special.

Why join us?

This is a chance to work on a high-profile programme with the potential to make a real difference to how people experience and care for the Norfolk coast. You’ll be joining a collaborative network of organisations and partners and will have the opportunity to develop new approaches to visitor engagement, test what works and use evidence to shape future investment. If you’re passionate about the environment, enjoy working with people and want to turn ideas into practical action, we’d love to hear from you.
