Managing flood risk is critical in Norfolk, where the County Council is committed to protecting communities and infrastructure from the impacts of surface water flooding and water‑related challenges.
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the Flood & Water Management Team, ensuring Norfolk fulfils its statutory duties as Lead Local Flood Authority. You will oversee complex projects to mitigate local flood risk, manage budgets of up to £1.5 m, and foster strong partnerships with stakeholders. The role requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to navigate a political environment while maintaining compliance and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
This role gives you the opportunity to develop and deliver the local flood risk management strategy, coordinating the partnership work of Risk Management Authorities, and influencing policy at local, regional, and national levels.
Requirements
- A degree in Environmental Science, drainage, or water management (or equivalent experience).
- Significant experience in water and sustainable development strategies, project management, and team leadership.
- Strong knowledge of flood risk legislation, sustainable drainage systems, planning and environmental management principles.
