The Assistant Practitioner will function at a higher competency level than that of other health care support workers. She/he will have responsibility for actively participating as a key member of the Amputee Rehabilitation Team and will be expected to communicate with a range of people on a range of matters (including the wider multi-disciplinary team) within the community, clinical department and/or ward and acute settings. The Assistant Practitioner will have a responsibility to provide quality services to patients under the supervision of a registered practitioner. The post holder will maintain, develop and evidence their clinical knowledge, skills and competencies at all opportunities. Experienced Band 3 therapy will be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard of care for individuals, under the supervision of the registered practitioner and acting within the standards, protocols and guidelines of the Amputee Rehabilitation service to assist in the assessment and treatment of patient’s health and well being needs.
  • To assess patient needs and plan, deliver and evaluate interventions within the agreed protocols/frameworks and within the Assistant Practitioner’s defined scope of practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and other meetings where appropriate.
  • Attend in-house training as required to develop current job role.
  • May be required to demonstrate own duties to students, new starters and/or less experienced staff; and be involved in induction programmes for new staff/students as required.
  • Be aware of limitations of own scope of practice and when to involve a more senior practitioner, both in daily practice and in emergency situations.
  • Acknowledge and recognise people’s expressed beliefs, preferences and choices.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management, and apply to work situation.
  • To provide peer support to other practitioners, demonstrating leadership skills as required.
  • Identify and explore own contribution to team working, and reflect on own practice.
  • Actively contribute to the working of the team and express ideas on improving services for users and the team.
