Are you a forward thinking Staff Nurse looking to move into the exciting area of specialist amputee rehabilitation? If so, an opportunity has arisen within the Amputee Specialist Rehabilitation Team based at the Colman Centre for Specialist Rehabilitation in Norwich. Our team provides specialist amputee rehabilitation for patients who are referred to us from across Norfolk and areas of Suffolk. We are looking to appoint one enthusiastic, well motivated staff nurse, into a part time post. You will cover a combination of earlies, lates and nights. Long days are also available. You will work as an integral part of the ward team and be responsible for providing high standards of rehabilitation care to a group of patients with specialist needs.
Main duties of the job:
- You will be required to deliver evidence based care to a high standard.
- Excellent communication skills and a supportive approach to team working within a rehabilitation setting are key to the success of this service.
- An ability to structure your own learning supported by the team gaining new knowledge and skills to benefit yourself and the service will be vital.
- In addition you will be working with families and colleagues in complex discharge planning.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills are essential as is the need to be cheerful and courteous.
- Good computer skills or the ability to learn will be required for this role as we are using SystmOne to record our patient interventions.
This opportunity is a key role working within a well-established team, working with all disciplines to deliver and achieve the best outcome for the patients who access this service. It is also a real opportunity for someone who is keen to explore their role within rehabilitation and learn and develop some new skills in this area of nursing. In addition, it is an opportunity to establish a therapeutic relationship with your patients and their families. Please note that whilst experience is desirable, we do welcome newly-qualified staff nurses too.
Job responsibilities:
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of assigned patients.
- To initiate this process when a patient is planned for admission to the unit ensuring the correct information, equipment etc. is in place and commences the assessment process.
- To provide care for patients as defined by the individualised care plan, reviewing and updating this when care needs change.
- When necessary, to make changes to planned care when the need arises and change the care plan accordingly.
- To communicate the changes to the wider team to ensure the correct care is delivered.
- To accurately document all stages of the nursing process.
- To keep care plans and patient records up to date, reviewing these as care changes.
- To provide a high standard of nursing care to the patients and evidence this.
- To establish a relationship in which the patient, family and friends may express their needs, and have those needs met where nursing can provide.
- To involve the patient, family and friends in setting goals, evaluating and taking part in the care process.
- To act as patient advocate where appropriate, ensuring patients capacity is assessed working with the mental capacity Act.
- To support, offer help and be aware of other staff members needs, and ensuring they deliver care appropriately based on the needs of patients as identified in their care plans.
- To act as practice supervisor, to nursing assistants and student nurses to support their learning and development.
- Work with unregistered staff to develop their competency in the care they are delivering and ensure safe practice.
- To contribute actively to the rehabilitation process working alongside therapy colleagues.
- Work closely with therapy colleagues to set joint goals with the patient ensuring the whole team are aware of the goals to focus on and achieve.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Evidence of recent update Registered General Nurse with UK Nursing and Midwifery Council, Mentorship or willingness to complete this, Evidence of recent learning and development which could be relevant to tissue viability, continence, diabetes, care management for example, Willingness to take on link nurse role for the service.
- Experience: Experience supporting students, Experience of Clinical Supervision, Commitment to understanding the role of other disciplines, Experience of day to day management of nursing team, Worked successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team, Experience of initiating, amending and implementing care management, Experience in Rehabilitation.
- Skills, Abilities and Knowledge: Able to manage own time and prioritise, Able to manage a team and delegate care, Works well in a team, Has respect for others, Able to lead a team of staff in delivering care to caseload patients, To demonstrate a commitment to supporting rehabilitation to maximise patients functional ability.
- Communication: Good communication skills in challenging situations, Able to communicate effectively using the English language in both verbal and written form, Ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals which will be key to the role.
- Personal and People Development: Adopts a coaching style when supporting new or inexperienced staff or students, Develops self through regular updates and training attendance, maintains portfolio of learning.
- Personal Attributes/Behaviours: Positive, open attitude, Able to work flexibly to meet patient and service needs, Sensitivity, Enthusiasm for people and nursing, Able to engage and interact.
- Other: The post holder will be required to work shift patterns, The post holder will need to be passed fit to perform full duties of the post through occupational health with any reasonable aids and adaptations if necessary.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
