Locum Consultant in Urology (QEHKL)

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Locum Consultant in Urology based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. It is expected that the post holder will be trained in general urology and have a special interest to complement the department. This will be a 12-month fixed-term Locum appointment to fill a gap while recruiting to the Substantive post.

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group. All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy. Some of the clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment.

Main duties of the job

• Share with consultant colleagues the urological workload.
• Provide with the other consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for annual, study and professional leave. The current on call system is 1 in 6 on-call at QEHKL with prospective cover, but this may change as the Norfolk & Waveney Urology Service transforms.
• Give a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trusts.
• Liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospitals.
• Take part in the Royal College of Surgeons continuing medical education programme. The employing Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.
• Play a full part in the teaching and audit activities of the department.
• Participate in the rolling process of clinical governance at QEH and NNUH.
• Contribute to management of the service.
• Comply with the outline Consultant work programme (under provisions of Circular HC90/16) and the weekly timetable of fixed commitments (ie: regular scheduled NHS activities in accordance with paragraph 30B of the TCS).
• Academic input is optional but there is the opportunity for developing research. Active participation of teaching to undergraduate medical students from UEA and links with university encouraged.

Person Specification

• Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration
• FRCS (Urol).
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via; o CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) o CESR or o European Community Rights
• Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.
• Previous responsibility for service improvement.

• Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
• Training and expertise in children's safeguarding.
• Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest.
• Human factors training.

• General urology, andrology.
• An interest to complement the wider department.

• Flexible outlook on working hours.
• Must live within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust or 30 minutes travelling time.
• Ability to travel across multi-sites whilst public transport may not be available.

• Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology and support staff.
• Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries.

£109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum pro rata.
