Key Aspects of the Role:

  • Moving patients between the same Day Admissions Unit, wards, Theatres and Recovery departments.
  • Assisting in the care of the surgical patient during the peri-operative period by supporting the multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting the Theatre personnel in providing a safe, high quality environment for the carrying out of surgical procedures by:
  • Assisting The Clinical Practitioners with procedures.
  • Providing basic patient care.
  • Providing a safe environment ensuring the highest quality of patient care is provided.
  • Preparing and setting up theatre prior to theatre list.
  • General circulating duties as instructed/requested from qualified members of theatre team.
  • Assisting the safe transit of the patient to and from the ward and between areas within day theatres, before and after surgery, and ensuring safety of any equipment that is attached to the patient.
  • Providing knowledgeable and safe assistance with the transfer of the anaesthetised patient from the patient's trolley to the operating table using the hospital policy for manual handling of patients.
  • Assisting with the positioning of the patient for a surgical procedure.
  • Undertaking pressure area care using pressure relieving practices and devices as advised by registered staff.
  • Ensuring all documentation is recorded accurately, legibly signed and dated in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and countersigned by registered staff as appropriate.

The department utilises 25 Theatres which include Emergency, Obstetric, Vascular, Paediatric and ENT as well as Plastic and 2 Ambulatory Procedure Rooms. A number of theatres are used for multi-specialty procedures including General, Thoracic and Gynaecology. The Theatre Complex is committed to delivering outstanding care to our patients throughout their perioperative journey. Individuals need a good level of organisational skill and the ability to be dynamic with the ever changing workload. We are looking for individuals who promote the Trust PRIDE values and demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach to patient care. HCA experience is desirable but not essential.
