Overview

This is a full-time, on-site Estimator role based in Plymouth. The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for windows, curtain walling, entrances, and bi-fold door packages. The role involves preparing and submitting competitive tenders, value engineering proposals, and budget estimates, as well as supporting the project team during negotiations and handover. The Estimator will collaborate closely with design, production management, and installation teams to clarify scope, assess risks, and ensure estimates align with client requirements and project timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural drawings, extracting the information necessary to compile an estimate.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain additional information as required.
  • Assess the clients' requirements and advise accordingly with the aim of providing a compliant and cost-effective solution to their project needs.
  • Service both new and existing clients, producing where possible "on-time" estimates and key supporting information in line with their enquiry.
  • Utilise estimating software for the preparation of estimates.
  • Ensure all estimate information is readily available (paper and digital records) to assist other members of the department who may become involved with the enquiry or subsequent order.
  • Basic office admin duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in estimating for construction, façade, glazing, or related building envelope projects, with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation, ideally with exposure to CAD-based information.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and installation processes related to windows, curtain walling, and door systems.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Excel and other estimating or project tools; familiarity with pricing databases or estimating software is an advantage.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy in calculations, and the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with suppliers, subcontractors, internal teams, and clients.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and support value engineering.
  • Relevant experience in the construction industry; a background in quantity surveying, estimating, or commercial roles is beneficial.
  • Formal training or qualifications in construction, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field are desirable but equivalent experience will be considered.
