Learning Support Assistant in Maidstone

Reporting To: Additional Educational Needs Coordinator (AENCO) / Head of Primary or Secondary

The Opportunity: We are seeking a collaborative and supportive professional who thrives in working closely with colleagues on a daily basis and has a strong understanding of best practices for supporting students. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work across the school to provide high-quality, personalised support to students with a range of learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing tailored in-class and withdrawal support to students with identified learning needs, under the direction of the AENCO and class teachers.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students to support their academic progress, confidence and emotional well-being.
• Collaborating closely with teachers, the AENCO and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans and strategies effectively.
• Assisting in preparing and adapting resources and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Maintaining accurate records of student progress and contributing to review meetings as appropriate.
• Supporting the inclusion of all students in school life, fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for every learner.
• Carrying out personal care and physical support duties where required, in line with school policy and individual student needs.

What We Are Looking For: The ideal candidate will hold a minimum qualification of QQI Level 5 in Special Needs Assisting, Healthcare Support or an equivalent qualification, and will bring genuine commitment to inclusive education. We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people with a range of additional learning needs in an educational or care setting.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach to supporting students.
• Works effectively as part of a team, communicating well with teachers, parents and other professionals.
• Is committed to upholding confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
• Is organised and proactive, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of students and the school day.
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.

Experience in the following areas is desirable:

• Supporting neurodiverse students through both academic guidance and emotional wellbeing support.
• Demonstrating an understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences and best practices when providing one-to-one support to students.
