Teacher of Spanish in England

Location: Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong – a Nord Anglia Education school and part of the world’s leading international schools organisation – is recruiting a Teacher of Spanish.

This is primarily a Secondary School teaching role, delivering exceptional teaching and learning in Spanish across KS3, IGCSE and, where appropriate, the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). The role also includes teaching Spanish to students in Years 5 and 6 (KS2), supporting continuity and progression in language learning across the transition into Secondary. The successful candidate will inspire a love of languages and cultures, develop students’ confidence and fluency, and contribute to a vibrant and internationally minded school community. The ability to teach an additional subject would be highly desirable and would be considered a significant advantage.

• Delivering Excellence in Spanish and Modern Languages Education
• Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and differentiated lessons in Spanish, catering to a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and levels of prior language experience.
• Teach Spanish across Years 5 and 6 (KS2), KS3 and IGCSE, with the ability to contribute to IBDP language provision where appropriate.
• Use formative and summative assessment data effectively to track progress, measure impact and inform personalised teaching strategies.
• Develop students’ confidence and competence across speaking, listening, reading and writing, while fostering curiosity about the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

• Create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to communicate confidently, take intellectual risks and develop a genuine enthusiasm for language learning.
• Promote intercultural understanding and global mindedness through meaningful engagement with the languages, cultures and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world.
• Support students in becoming independent, reflective and resilient language learners.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to support curriculum development, interdisciplinary learning and the wider life of the school.
• Contribute actively to co-curricular opportunities, enrichment activities, trips, events and other initiatives that promote languages and internationalism.
• Contribute effectively in an additional teaching subject where the candidate’s qualifications and experience align with the needs of the school.

• Support the school’s wellbeing ethos by fostering an inclusive, safe and supportive classroom environment where every student feels valued and confident to participate.
• Act as a positive ambassador for Modern Foreign Languages within the school community and beyond.
• Engage with opportunities across the Nord Anglia Education family and its global network to enrich students’ learning and provide international perspectives.

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, BEd, HDipEd or equivalent).
• A strong academic background in Spanish, Modern Languages or a related discipline.
• A high level of proficiency in Spanish.
• Proven experience of teaching Spanish effectively across secondary age groups, ideally including IGCSE and/or IBDP, together with the flexibility and enthusiasm to teach Years 5 and 6 (KS2).
• A passion for language learning and intercultural understanding, and a demonstrable commitment to supporting the holistic development of every child.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, and a willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training when required.
• Compliance with visa requirements for working in China.

• The ability, qualifications and experience to teach an additional subject. This could include, but is not limited to, another Modern Foreign Language.
• Experience of teaching within an international school environment.
• Experience of teaching IGCSE and/or IBDP Spanish.
