We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Utilities Engineer to support and enhance the performance of site-wide utility systems within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, compliance, and efficiency of key infrastructure, including water systems, HVAC, compressed air, steam, and other essential services.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, applying effective troubleshooting techniques and driving the development and continuous improvement of planned maintenance strategies. The role demands strong cross-functional collaboration, as you will engage with production, quality, validation, and external stakeholders to ensure that all utility systems operate in full compliance with regulatory standards and company procedures.
A strong focus on asset reliability, cost optimisation, and continuous improvement is essential, along with the ability to influence teams and promote best practices across the site.
Main Activities/Tasks- Ensure compliance to H&S regulations and policies.
- Ensure all utilities systems and maintenance activities meet GMP, regulatory, and audit requirements.
- Support audits, providing documentation and technical expertise as required.
- Develop, implement, and improve planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes for all utility systems.
- Apply root cause analysis and reliability engineering principles to reduce downtime and improve system performance.
- Ensure SOPs and documentation are accurate, up to date, and technically robust.
- Drive continuous improvement to reflect best practices and regulatory expectations.
- Provide technical leadership and support, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Ensure standards meet expectations and promote accountability.
- Support the implementation of HR policies and contribute to team development and engagement.
- Take ownership of KPIs, including uptime, reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Management of 3rd party contractors.
- Analyse performance data, identify trends, and implement improvement initiatives to enhance asset performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure utilities systems support production and quality requirements.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to drive alignment and continuous improvement.
- Undertake any other responsibilities as required to support the engineering function and business objectives.
- Qualified in an electrical, electronic or mechanical or relevant discipline (City & Guilds, BTEC or Degree).
- Minimum of 5 years post apprenticeship experience or 2 years post graduate experience.
- Demonstrate experience leading teams, coordination, planning and execution of work.
- Continuous improvement mindset, embraces change and creates a sense of urgency to deliver change.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office with the ability to generate reports.
- Consideration may also be given to those with extensive experience gained in a comparable position.
- 3rd level qualification in related technical discipline.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualified or working towards.
- 5 years supervisory or technical leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
