About the role
We are looking for a passionate leader who can grow and manage a distributed, high-performing team. This is a hybrid role (2 days in the office per week) based in our central London office, where the core of our tech team is located. We need the best minds to help us scale what makes our school work: great teachers, active learning, and peer collaboration. Not lectures. Not AI gimmicks. A 24/7 experience where students debate, create, and learn by doing.
Responsibilities
- Line manage one or more cross-functional teams (backend, frontend, infrastructure).
- Contribute to product strategy, set team-level OKRs, and track progress and accountability.
- Grow a diverse, highly skilled, and motivated group of engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
- Play a key role in improving and implementing processes and values.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, operations, and learning teams.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience as a people manager, with a desire to learn, improve, and jell with the team and successfully lead, manage, and coach a team in a high-growth tech/product company.
- Strong technical skills, architectural knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and experience setting strategic direction.
- A passion for mentoring and supporting the career development of engineers.
- Experience building cross-functional teams, including recruiting, promoting, and onboarding.
- Bonus points if you have hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot in the backend, or TypeScript, React or React Native in the frontend.
The interview process
The process involves a recruiter call and then a technical interview (coding and architecture/system design interview), followed by an in-person interview in the London office that includes a behavioural interview.
