The PE Support Assistant is a vital role within the PE department and is key to ensuring outstanding PE teaching and an enriching extracurricular programme. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals currently working in, or with a strong interest in, girls’ sport, as well as those seeking to gain valuable school-based experience or considering a future career in teaching. The role involves responsibility for resources, maintaining equipment, and providing support for both PE lessons and extracurricular activities. The work carried out by the PE Support Assistant is highly valued by staff and contributes to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment across curriculum lessons and extracurricular PE clubs. As a PE Support Assistant, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for physical activity and sport, helping to inspire students and support the school’s wider aims. Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • To support the delivery of PE lessons and the PE curriculum
  • To coordinate fixtures, events and extra-curricular activities
  • To maintain equipment, resources and learning environments
  • To provide administrative and communication support
  • To assist with swimming lessons, including overseeing the changing rooms before and after the lessons
  • To assist with fixtures, attending away fixtures and tournaments as the second member of staff

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate strong IT and organisational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across the whole school community
  • Have experience of coaching or actively participating in girls’ sports
  • Show the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team
  • Maintain a positive, even-tempered and calm approach, particularly when working under pressure
  • Uphold high standards of confidentiality and exercise discretion at all times
