We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Law Costs Draftsman (Negotiator) to join a well-established legal team. This role is ideal for someone looking to work in a supportive and professional environment where they can focus on delivering high-quality work and achieving strong outcomes for clients.
The Role
As a Costs Negotiator, you’ll be responsible for managing the legal costs recovery process from start to finish. You’ll engage in detailed negotiations, advise stakeholders, and handle documentation relevant to cost proceedings. The role may also involve court advocacy where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiating legal costs with opponents to secure optimal settlements
- Preparing bills of costs, points of dispute, replies, and costs schedules/statements
- Drafting interlocutory applications and instructing advocates as required
- Advising clients and case handlers throughout the assessment process
- Attending court hearings where agreed
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role, either in-house or via an external provider.
- Strong understanding of legal cost procedures and relevant case law.
- Clear, professional communication skills suitable for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- Desirable qualifications include ILEX Part 1 or relevant legal/financial degrees.
