The Equity Middle Office team, part of Global Middle Office, consists of two key product groups:
- Equity Finance, Delta-1 and Cross Asset: Where middle office supports desks offering single stock and basket swaps to clients seeking long or short exposure using Total Return Swaps (TRS) to equity underlying assets. The Prime Brokerage Middle Office team consists of two key product groups; Cash Prime Brokerage and Synthetic Prime Brokerage. Operating on different platforms but with both businesses offering services to the same hedge fund clients. The team provides direct, client-aligned services to Hedge Fund clients, Prime Finance trading teams and offers operational and analytical support to other GM teams including Sales and Client service.
- Equity Solutions: Provide middle office support for desks facilitating client equity position builds. Services include Equity Financing—encompassing equity-linked instruments and margin loans—that offer funding against new or existing equity stakes. These transactions are highly sensitive by nature and require substantial hands-on support and discretion.
With a growing business diversifying all the time, a cash and OTC product scope and synergies of the same HF clients and PB business contacts the role will be challenging and varied. It will offer exposure to all areas of the business including Operations divisions, Finance, Risk and Front Office sales and trading. It is a client-facing role and the successful candidate will have direct exposure to clients. Over time the successful applicant will develop an excellent understanding of how the Prime division operates. Good analytical, risk awareness and communication skills, together with an aptitude to learn, are equally if not more important than direct experience or background.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Cash Prime Brokerage business expansion by collaborating closely with project teams and the trading desk.
- Servicing PB clients daily, acting as their primary point of contact, addressing their needs, and resolving day-to-day queries.
- Delivering regional and global coverage by managing clients' transactional portfolios and taking proactive measures to mitigate financial and reputational risk for both clients and Nomura.
- Reviewing client reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; partnering with Client Service to drive improvements in efficiency, cost management, and controls.
- Onboarding new clients and ensuring accurate loading of SSIs and all data integrity requirements.
- Resolving breaks promptly and accurately by coordinating with traders, Client Service, IT, MO, and Core Operations teams.
- Maintaining up-to-date SOPs and representing Middle Office in KRI and Front Office supervision forums.
- Demonstrating flexibility to learn additional business areas and provide backup support across other Equity business segments, including Synthetic Prime Brokerage, Equity Solutions, Equity Finance & Delta-1, Equity Syndicate, and Convertible Bonds.
Operational Excellence:
- Provide comprehensive daily servicing of Prime Brokerage clients, acting as a single point of contact for transactional needs and query resolution.
- Monitor and review client reports on daily, weekly, and monthly cycles to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost optimization, and enhanced controls.
- Execute timely and accurate break resolution through effective coordination with traders, Client Service, IT, Middle Office, and Core Operations teams.
- Manage client transactional portfolios with calculated risk mitigation strategies to protect both client and Nomura from financial and reputational exposure.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Demonstrate adaptability and willingness to expand knowledge across other Equity business lines.
- Collaborate effectively across regional and global teams to deliver seamless client coverage.
Business Partnership:
- Serve as a key Middle Office contact supporting the re-launch of the Cash Prime Brokerage business.
- Partner with Client Service teams to drive forward transformational change initiatives.
- Manage stakeholder expectations across internal teams and external clients through proactive communication.
Control Environment Enhancement:
- Implement robust monitoring frameworks to ensure compliance with operational controls.
- Maintain rigorous oversight of client onboarding processes to ensure regulatory and procedural adherence.

Industry Expertise and Alignment:
- Leverage strong Cash Prime Brokerage business knowledge to support strategic business restart.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- Cash Prime Brokerage Subject matter expert (SME).
- Good understanding of operational risk and an ability to pro-actively manage risk.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel is needed. PowerPoint and Word would be helpful.
