Department Overview:

The QIS (Quantitative Investment Strategies) business designs systematic trading strategies across all asset-classes, which are packaged into investible indices. Nomura markets and sells products linked to the performance of these indices to its clients, using a range of payoff structures. The business is based on strong collaboration between Trading, Structuring, Research, Sales as well as Strats and a variety of corporate function partners. The Trading desk enjoys a diverse mix of market-facing aspects, team-working, data analysis, working with derivatives, and infrastructure building via code. The QIS business has a long and established history at Nomura and a strong track-record of servicing clients across EMEA, the Americas and Asia.

Key Objectives Critical to Success:

  • Technology focused trader within London QIS Trading team
  • Help design, build and run various Trading tools, systems and processes
  • Develop an understanding of QIS products
  • Coordinate processes and projects across other stakeholders (e.g. Strats, IT, Quants, Structuring, Operations)
  • Engage in other Trading desk activities such as hedging, pricing and risk-managing derivative payoffs, and developing new strategies

Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required:

  • Very strong Python programming knowledge and experience
  • Experience in creating and enhancing Python and Excel based tools within a Finance context (or similar)
  • Very strong Excel spreadsheet skills
  • High levels of diligence and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational abilities and a passion to continually improve operational efficiency
  • Good ability to manage multiple tasks across different contexts and prioritize appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills: communication, working within teams, leadership
  • Self-starter with strong decision-making skills and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • General knowledge of finance and derivatives
