Department Overview
The Asset Backed and Trade Finance desk is a diverse business within Nomura’s Securitized Products division that brings together broad capabilities across financing, underwriting, structuring and risk management to provide holistic solutions to our clients. The group works closely with Investment Banking and Global Markets sales to originate, execute and distribute transactions. The desk’s broad mandate and expertise allow it to position its risk taking and activities where it identifies the highest relative value propositions with a focus on identifying market opportunities which require novel and creative solutions that do not fall within the standard boxes serviced by more industrialised competitors. During the past ten years, the desk has in particular developed a cutting‑edge franchise in non‑performing loans speciality finance and financing of esoteric receivables with a focus on senior financing but with the ability to go deeper in the capital structure when opportunities arise. The desk underwrites risk for the bank’s balance sheet and for distribution and has transacted in various jurisdictions and asset classes across Europe. Clients range from private equity sponsors to corporate and family offices with a focus on financial sponsors.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite, structure and execute structured financings of specialty finance platforms and receivables in EMEA
- Research asset classes and markets relevant to potential or existing transactions to form trading views and inform transaction underwriting, structuring and risk management
- Coordinate transaction due diligence and execution work streams with third party advisers and legal counsels
- Model transactions throughout their lifecycles (origination, underwriting and post‑closing)
- Work in partnership with our client coverage teams to identify and assess opportunities and contribute to transaction idea generation
- Prepare internal transaction approval memos and collaborate with credit risk and other control functions throughout transaction lifecycle
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Master’s Degree in Science preferred
- At least 3 years of structured finance underwriting experience in an investment bank or private equity fund
- Strong quantitative and technical abilities including financial modelling
- Proven project management, analytical and credit skills
