Department overview:

The Prudential Planning and FRM team is responsible for delivering key capital and liquidity planning initiatives for Nomura European Holdings (NEHS, the European consolidation group) and Instinet International Limited (IIL, the UK consolidation group for Nomura Instinet), primarily driven by UK and European regulatory requirements. The team ensures NEHS and IIL are adequately capitalised at all times as well as identifying any threats to the viability of the firm and helps management identify appropriate actions. The team also supports and facilitates management of financial resources for the Wholesale business (Global Markets and Investment Banking Division). The team structure is lean and relatively flat, sitting within the Finance department in EMEA.

The team spearheads the following:

  • Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP)
  • Internal Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP)
  • Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment (ICARA)
  • Recovery & Resolution Planning (RRP)
  • Trading-activity Wind-Down (TWD) Planning
  • Contingency Funding Planning (CFP)
  • Financial Resources Management (FRM) working together with the Group FRM

These initiatives have been at the top of regulator’s agenda and therefore the Board’s agenda in recent years. We work closely with a range of teams across Finance, Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Strategy and the Front Office across all regions.

Role description:

The firm is looking to recruit an experienced individual at Vice President level to support execution of the Prudential Planning and FRM team’s core responsibilities including:

  • Delivery of ICARA initiatives in accordance with regulatory requirements and harms assessment (FCA)
  • Driving discussion with various functions (Risk Management and business) and influencing stakeholders who provide inputs into ICARA
  • ICARA, Recovery Plan and Wind-Down Plan documentation
  • Preparation of regular Board and Management Committee reporting, and coordinating senior management sign-off
  • Ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments, engaging with industry forums / peers and responding to public consultations
  • Regulatory engagement e.g. FCA SREP
  • Ad hoc impact analyses on financial resources (e.g. capital)
  • Provide cross-team support as required

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • Regulatory or Financial Services industry experience with a focus on prudential risk assessments
  • Solid understanding of new and pending regulations around resolution, including their impact to firms
  • Prior experience in FCA regulated investment firms / MIFIDPRU is desirable – in particular, experience in ICARA (especially OFTR) and Wind-Down Planning would be a highly beneficial
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to gather a wide range of information from various literature / regulatory publications and synthesize / convey complex topics succinctly
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills, coordinating deliverables and people to tight timelines
  • Ability to operate in an environment with a high level of scrutiny and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal / external stakeholders across different regions
  • A strong risk and controls mind-set with the confidence to provide challenge
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and respond proactively to business needs
  • A proactive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Microsoft 365 proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
