Department Overview
The Global Internal Audit department is a key part of Nomura’s corporate governance and its primary objective is to review the firm's control environment and report any weaknesses identified to the Audit Committees and senior management.
Global Internal Audit department has 138 professionals reporting to the Global Head of Internal Audit for Wholesale, comprising Business, Risk and IT audit specialists.
Role Description:
Lead the Global Risk Culture Audit portfolio, providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of risk culture frameworks and behaviours across the organization. This role will evolve and execute the strategic vision for risk culture assessments worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement a comprehensive risk culture audit methodology aligned with regulatory expectations and industry best practices across multiple regions
- Develop the annual Risk Culture Audit Plan and discuss with key regional and global stakeholders
- Lead enterprise-wide and business specific risk culture assessments in the Plan and provide insights to senior management and relevant Board committee through impactful audit reports with minimal supervision
- Evaluate the effectiveness of risk culture governance, monitoring and reporting structures, risk culture frameworks, and the embedment of the desired risk culture
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the Three Lines of Defence including the Front Office and Corporate Functions
- Support a diverse team of audit professionals across multiple regions. This includes training the audit team to be aware of how to identify and report on risk culture issues in their reviews
- Identify emerging risk culture trends and their potential impact on organizational resilience
Objectives critical to success:
- Carry out Internal Audit’s vision and strategy conforming with Nomura’s highest ethical standards
- Identify and communicate changes to the control environment and revisions to the risk assessments and audit plan.
- Deliver Audits/Projects within budget and timetable, in compliance with departmental standards and methodology
- Adhere to the regulatory requirements of Internal Audit in the Risk Culture space
- Communicate effectively with key stakeholders
- Demonstrate leadership behaviours aligned to Nomura’s culture
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
This role is a key part of the Group Internal Audit Leadership team. The candidate should specifically have:
- Relevant Risk Culture assessment experience in audit, risk management, or related fields
- Advanced degree in Behavioural Science, Psychology, or related field
- Experience with behavioural assessment methodologies and tools
- A track record in conducting culture assessments in financial institutions and effectively communicating results with senior stakeholders
- Strong understanding of the application of behavioural science to risk management
- Proven track record of collaborating with global teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships
- Deep knowledge of the levers that drive and embed risk culture, risk management frameworks and regulatory requirements
- Excellent project management skills covering planning, executing and reporting the results of work conducted with minimal supervision
- Strong data analytics capabilities
- Strong leadership, management and team building skills and an ability to work across teams.
- Confident manner and well-developed communication (both oral and written), influencing, and interpersonal skills including a proven ability to influence and persuade auditees regarding control issues.
