Nomad are on the lookout for an experienced Global Infrastructure Manager to join our global Engineering division. The successful applicant will have overall responsibility and accountability for the system administration team and infrastructure operations. They will also act as the technical point of escalation within the team, and create work plans and optimization initiatives. This role will work closely with Heads of Development and Development teams Globally.

The role requires someone with a deep understanding of wireless technologies including Wi‑Fi and cellular networks (LTE, HSPA+, WCDMA, GSM), Linux platforms, and infrastructure management. This role requires an individual with 5+ years of experience, who is flexible and able to travel to work on projects worldwide when needed. The individual should also possess knowledge of server and storage infrastructure products, virtualization technologies, cloud services and networking principles.

This can be a hybrid role based in our Newcastle, UK office or remote in the UK, with travel to our office on occasion throughout the year.

Essential Duties

  • Work in close collaboration with R&D to ensure all products are tested and quality checked prior to deployment in production environments.
  • Oversee and ensure control of all product and configuration releases to project environments.
  • Oversee the performance of the System Admin team and ensure all escalations are managed effectively, in a timely manner.
  • Oversee projects and operational datacenters for all product upgrades and general releases.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and offer solutions across a broad range of IT and communication systems with an emphasis on Linux environments, virtualization, security and networking.
  • Implement and support complex solutions in diverse system environments.
  • Configuration management and task automation within self‑managed and managed cloud environments.
  • IP network configuration.
  • Where appropriate create documentation for both internal and external use.
  • Adhere to all system audit requirements as appropriate.
  • Troubleshooting network issues.
  • Implement automation and logging systems.
  • Sizing of solutions to match the project objectives.
  • Oversee the handover to client or in‑house support staff including training.
  • Complete overall departmental objectives set by the Technical Director on time and within scope to ensure all the team is fully supported and departmental goals are reached.
  • Proactively identify and exceed customer expectations to ensure a customer‑focused service is always provided.
  • Operate within the guidelines of the role and recognise when it is appropriate to escalade matters within the team to maintain the level of customer service.
  • Work in close collaboration with procurement & finance on ensuring datacentres are cost‑effective and managed against current SLAs.
  • All other relevant tasks as detailed by the Line Manager.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Debian or equivalent
  • Linux Professional Institute or equivalent experience
  • Valid driving licence

Desired

  • Degree or equivalent
  • CCNA or CompTIA Network certification

Experience

  • Must have 2 years’ min hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting networks
  • Experience in team management/Scrum master.
  • Kubernetes.
  • Linux based systems: CentOS / Debian.
  • IP Tables / firewalls
  • Network communications.
  • LAN and VLAN IP planning, preferably with some RF planning experience
  • High availability.
  • Auditing.
  • Management of Firewall estate i.e., FortiGate.
  • Datacenter infrastructure management and optimisation.
  • Performance and reliability management including experience with PLM.
  • DNS.
  • Virtualization (VMware / Xen / Proxmox).
  • Automation: Puppet / Ansible
  • Scripting.
  • Docker / containerisation.
  • BGP.
  • IP Routing IPv4 IPv6.

Other Essential Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the role, you will require excellent communication, planning and co‑ordination skills.
  • You will be expected to function well as both an independent problem solver and a team player.
  • The role will require a flexible individual with a flexible approach to fit the demands of the business.
  • The role may require you to travel and work at remote sites due to the nature of our project activities.
  • You will be required to take part in the 24 x 7 on‑call rota when required to support systems administration.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
