The predicted salary is between 36000 - 44000 £ per year.

The Company maintains and services a fleet that comprises of tractor units, temperature controlled units, Euroliners, curtainsiders, insulated supercube secure box vans, articulated flats and stepframe machine carriers.

With 40 employees on site at our site in Wales, the garage is fully equipped & capable to undertake the complete suite of maintenance and servicing work to operate the fleet.

We are currently recruiting for the role of

Garage Supervisor to be based in Bridgend, Wales.

Key Duties of the Role

  • Working closely with and reporting to the Garage Manager – you will be responsible for the day‑day operation of the business.
  • Supervise the onsite team of assorted garage staff including mechanics, welders, auto electricians and refrigerated unit technicians.
  • People management duties will include recruitment, selection, training and performance management – including evaluating the quality of the work being undertaken.
  • Log, evaluate and assign all work to be undertaken and schedule the order in which the work is to be undertaken.
  • Assess the work in such a way that complex work is properly assigned while quick and easy repairs are expedited through the garage.
  • Ensure staffing levels are in keeping with the operational needs and financial goals of the business.
  • Operate the facility in full compliance on all matters such as health and safety and quality standards.

This responsibility will include the scheduling of regular audits of all agreed standards.

  • Ensuring that all work undertaken is recorded correctly, dated and retained for the purposes of road safety compliance.
  • Accurately record the movement and use of parts and update the stock records each day.
  • Liaise with the Garage Manager weekly on the parts and consumables to be ordered each week.
  • Responsible for the end to end movement of all transport units, in order to minimise their time in the garage workshop.
  • Deal with all operational issues that arise from time to time and resolve all matters to the satisfaction of the Garage Manager.
  • Monitor the operation of the business and provide input for continuous improvements to systems, scheduling and manpower planning – especially around periods of exceptional or seasonal demands.
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports and updates to the Garage Manager.

The ideal candidate will

  • Have a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience working in a similar role – ideally in the road transport industry.
  • Be well organised and a multitasker with an eye for detail and a good common sense approach to the scheduling of work.
  • Have a strong commitment to compliance, health and safety and quality standards.
  • Have stock room and spare parts management experience.
  • Have strong proven leadership skills and be able to demonstrate team leadership, motivation, coaching and the day‑to‑day management of a team; including performance reviews and staff appraisals.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for delivering on a business plan and its objectives including the management of all resources and costs.
  • Have experience of day‑to‑day reporting and accountability to senior management.
  • Possess a positive, can do attitude and the ability to go the extra mile to get the job done correctly and on time.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and great attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT and Computer Skills – including Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages.
  • Ideally have a valid HGV Licence – to undertake test drives post vehicle maintenance or willing to achieve the licence at the expense of the company.
  • Transport Manager’s CPC is desirable.
