The Role

We are working with a leading technical consultancy specialising in energy infrastructure, with over 35 years of experience delivering projects across the UK and Ireland.

They are looking to recruit a Consulting Engineer with experience in Solar PV to join their expanding renewables team in Manchester.

You will work across a diverse portfolio of solar projects, including large-scale solar farms and complex developments combining solar PV and battery storage. Collaborating with developers, investors, lenders and asset owners, you will provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and technical due diligence through to procurement, construction, commissioning and testing.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical workstreams and, depending on experience, progress into managing the construction and delivery of large-scale solar farm projects.

Candidates with ground-mounted solar PV experience are particularly desirable, although those with transferable renewable energy experience and an interest in developing their expertise in large-scale solar projects will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consultancy across large-scale solar PV and renewable energy projects.

  • Undertake feasibility studies, technical assessments and design reviews.

  • Support technical due diligence for renewable energy investments and project financing.

  • Review electrical drawings, technical specifications, models and functional descriptions.

  • Identify and assess technical risks relating to solar PV system design, installation and project delivery.

  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning and testing activities.

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and models for clients.

  • Work closely with developers, investors, lenders and asset owners throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage technical workstreams and contribute to project management activities, as appropriate.

  • Attend client meetings, site visits and factory acceptance tests across the UK, Ireland and occasionally Europe.

  • A relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy or a related discipline.

  • Previous experience within solar PV or the wider renewable energy sector on utility scale projects.

  • Experience in technical consultancy or project management during the development, construction or operational phases of renewable energy projects.

  • Experience producing feasibility studies, design reviews and technical reports.

  • Understanding of the technical risks associated with solar PV and battery storage projects.

  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, models, specifications and technical documentation.

  • Experience or understanding of technical due diligence and renewable energy project financing would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts and their application to renewable energy projects.

  • Strong analytical, report‑writing and communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel across the UK, Ireland and occasionally the EU.

  • Existing right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and growing energy consultancy delivering technically challenging renewable energy projects.
