We are currently working with a fast-growing renewable energy business who are seeking a Design Manager to join their expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a highly ambitious organisation delivering high‑specification renewable energy and MEP projects across the South East. The business works across a broad range of technologies including ASHP, GSHP, Solar PV, Battery Storage, MVHR, and Air Conditioning systems for both residential and commercial projects. This role offers a high degree of flexibility, with office attendance typically required on Tuesdays and ideally Thursdays, alongside occasional site visits when required.
Responsibilities
- Leading and managing the technical design function across renewable energy and MEP projects.
- Managing and mentoring a small team of Design Engineers, reviewing outputs and maintaining high technical standards.
- Taking ownership of designs post‑handover from the sales team through to project delivery.
- Producing detailed Stage 4 and Stage 5 technical designs for renewable energy systems including heat pumps, solar PV, MVHR, battery storage, and full M&E solutions.
- Managing client interactions throughout the design lifecycle, including architects, consultants, and contractors.
- Carrying out heat loss/gain calculations and room‑by‑room analysis for accurate system sizing.
- Producing technical schematics, specifications, and design documentation.
- Acting as the key technical support point for installation teams and site supervisors, resolving technical queries and ensuring designs are practical and installable.
- Managing design workflows, prioritising projects, and ensuring SLAs and deadlines are achieved.
- Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of BIM processes and design procedures.
- Working closely with senior leadership to improve design operations and project delivery.
Experience / Skills Required
- Previous design experience within Building Services, MEP, HVAC, or renewable energy sectors.
- Experience designing mechanical and/or electrical systems for residential or commercial projects.
- Renewable energy experience would be advantageous, although not essential.
- Strong understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, EasyPV, or similar.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and RIBA design stages would be beneficial.
- Ability to produce detailed technical drawings, schematics, and calculations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, sales teams, and installation engineers.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
