Nokia Bell Labs Cambridge is looking for a researcher to join the Math & Algorithms Research Group, AI Research Lab, to evaluate the use of a novel computing concept called Ising machine in 6G signal processing. Ising machines are a new quantum/analogue computing paradigm for solving discrete optimisation problems. This project is part of a big EU funded initiative (QUEST-6G) pushing the limits of hardware and algorithms design for 6G communications. We are looking for a candidate to help us design algorithms, conduct numerical experiments and conduct benchmarking and analysis of the performance of this new computing approach. This role is a fixed-term appointment for 26 months.
Your responsibilities:
- Exploration of the capabilities of novel computing hardware in 6G wireless communication (e.g. in hybrid precoding, power allocation, antenna positioning, beam focusing, non-linear precoding).
- Numerical simulation of Ising machines.
- Compiling of and working with radio signal datasets to evaluate algorithm performance.
- Creation of written reports and publications about the findings.
- Presentations to the project consortium and the wider research community.
Your skills and experience:
- You are a researcher with a PhD degree in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or related field.
- You are experienced in (or show strong interest in) radio signal processing as applied to mobile communications, particularly for MIMO arrays.
- You are familiar with (or show strong interest in) Ising machines or related novel computing paradigms.
- You are experienced with numerical methods and software (e.g. Python, numpy, Mathematica, or similar tools).
More information:
- Flexible working arrangements and additional flex benefits to support work–life balance.
- A minimum of 90 days of Maternity and Paternity Leave, with the option to return to work within a year following the birth or adoption of a child (based on eligibility).
- Medical insurance plan, life assurance, and long-term disability/critical illness coverage.
- Company sick pay and pension plan to ensure financial security and support during challenging times.
- Annual Leave of 25 working days plus bank holidays.
- Car allowance based on eligibility.
- Well‑being programs to support your mental and physical health.
- Opportunities to engage with Nokia Employee Resource Groups (NERGs), as well as access to mentors, coaches, and Employee Growth Solutions.
- A learning culture that promotes continuous personal and professional growth – for your role and beyond.
