NoFit State is the UK’s premier contemporary circus company, established in 1986. Known for their dynamic and creative performances, NoFit State tours sold-out shows worldwide, captivating audiences with innovative and immersive productions.
This is a full-time, on-site role based across the UK and Ireland tour for a 7 month tour. The Front of House Manager will oversee the day-to-day management of the front of house operations during shows, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of services. Responsibilities include providing exceptional customer service, assisting with running of the box office, overseeing the cafe bar sales, and training and supervising front of house staff.
The position is a touring role that travels with the tour company in a Big Top and caravans. We live and travel together, we work hard and play hard. We want the people joining us to be living and breathing the lifestyle with us.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing the running of the public facing areas, ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the front of house during showtimes.
- Working with the Stage Manager and Tour Manager to ensure the café has suitable staffing and that volunteers have reasonable training in the area they are helping with.
- Ensuring the entrance gate is reasonably staffed and helping to sell any walk-up tickets.
- Supporting the Tour Manager in the running of the day-to-day box office, using our ticket system, Spektrix.
- To be the first point of contact outside of the tent during showtimes, to be able a solid and reliable voice of reason when needed.
- To manage the sourcing and stocking of the items we sell in our café and merchandise areas, constantly looking ahead to guarantee suitable items and correct stock levels.
- Working with the Assistant Producer to manage the POS systems and daily cashing up and recording of incomes.
- To attend regular crew meetings, bringing with you any jobs and updates in relation to the front of house areas.
- Social media support through contributing relevant content to the bank, as run by the Marketing department in Cardiff.
- Fully participate in work necessary to build/strike the tent and site at the beginning and end of each stand.
- The desire and willingness to muck in and do what needs to be done to keep the show on the road.
- Be a team player capable of taking both instructions and initiative and supporting those around you.
- Any other duties as required.
Personal Specification
Essential
- A genuine interest/passion for touring circus and the lifestyle that comes with that.
- Computer literate and comfortable using and learning to use a variety of software packages.
- Ability to prioritise and efficiently self-manage own workload.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
- Strong experience in bar/hospitality/front of house and a desire to enrich the audiences’ visit to the show.
- Valid Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake this course.
- Confident in managing a group of people.
- A strong and clear communicator.
- Valid passport and the right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Have experience of working with touring theatre or contemporary circus company.
- A clean full driving license and access to your own vehicle and additional driving qualifications e.g. HGV.
- Experience in using ticketing or POS systems such as Spektrix and Loyverse.
- A Personal License holder, SIA License holder.
- Fully understanding all up-to-date health and safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language (in particular French or Welsh as well as English).
- First aid accredited/Mental health first aid accredited.
Role overview
This is a freelance touring fixed-term position.
Dates: 1 April - 25 September 2026

Other: Travel to be covered when in relation to the role. Meals provided, 1 or 2 a day depending on schedule. Bunk wagon room can be provided if no live-in vehicle is available to you.
