About the role
As we expand into new markets and introduce new solutions into our product range, we have a requirement to engage an Engineer to support the operational running of our Infrastructure Platform Team. This is the ideal role for a professional looking to join a dynamic team within a rapidly growing, award-winning and highly accredited company. The Infrastructure Platform team provides 3rd and 4th line technical escalation, delivering the reliable operation and lifecycle management of core infrastructure platforms that are foundational to our shared, private and hybrid-cloud solutions. The team is accountable for compute virtualisation platforms, enterprise storage services, and backup and disaster recovery solutions that underpin customer-facing and business-critical services.
Role Purpose
The Infrastructure Platform Engineer plays an important technical role in supporting the delivery of day-to-day operational services within a high-performing, customer-focused team. The role is responsible for providing hands-on technical support across Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request fulfilment, applying platform and infrastructure knowledge to diagnose and resolve service issues.
Working closely with peers and wider technology teams, the role contributes to technical escalations, root cause investigations, and continuous service improvement activities. The Engineer helps ensure stable, secure, and ITIL-aligned service outcomes are delivered in line with agreed SLAs, OLAs, and contractual commitments.
Key Task & Responsibilities
Service Operations
- Work within an ITIL aligned service framework, supporting Incident, Problem, and Change Enablement processes to deliver consistent, high quality services.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to support effective operational delivery and maintain service continuity and customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to continual service improvement through standardisation, automation, and adherence to operational best practices.
- Provide hands on operational support, including assisting with escalated incidents and following issues through to resolution within agreed SLAs.
- Monitor and maintain infrastructure platforms to meet availability, performance, lifecycle, and security requirements, supporting planned and out of hours change where required.
- Support service resilience through proactive monitoring, effective incident response, and participation in on call and out of hours support.
Technical
- Build, configure, and maintain VMware Cloud Foundation–aligned platforms, including vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and associated infrastructure components.
- Support the build, configuration, and maintenance of backup and disaster recovery platforms in line with service and architectural requirements.
- Provide hands-on support across hypervisor, storage, and data protection platforms, focusing on platform health, stability, and performance.
- Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues across compute, storage, and data protection layers using structured troubleshooting approaches.
- Deliver platform lifecycle activities, including patching, upgrades, and capacity changes, ensuring environments remain secure and supportable.
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, including configurations, standards, and operational procedures to support team knowledge and continuity.
What will you bring?
- Practical experience working within ITIL-aligned environments (Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request Management) to meet agreed SLAs.
- Experience working in an MSP or outsourced IT services environment, supporting multiple customers.
- Demonstrates an organised and structured approach to managing workload, priorities, and service delivery.
- Hands-on technical experience across one or more of the following:
- VMware platforms (vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX, Aria Suite)
- VMware Cloud Director and availability tooling
- Load balancing technologies (e.g. NSX Advanced Load Balancer)
- Enterprise storage (SAN/NAS) and protocols (iSCSI, NFS, NVMe)
- Backup and Disaster Recovery platforms (e.g. Veeam, Commvault, Zerto)
- Exposure to automation tools or scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform) with the ability to support existing solutions.
- Experience using monitoring and management tools to support platform performance and availability.
- Familiarity with Linux command line for routine administration tasks.
- Basic understanding of certificate management for securing services and endpoints.
- Typically 2–3 years’ experience supporting and maintaining infrastructure platforms.
Beneficial Skills and Experience
- Experience using ITSM tools (e.g. ServiceNow or equivalent) to manage incidents, changes, and service requests.
- Understanding of SDDC concepts and virtualised infrastructure environments.
- Working knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking and basic troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with alternative virtualisation platforms (e.g. Hyper-V, Nutanix, OpenStack) or public cloud (AWS, Azure).
- Exposure to server hardware management tools (e.g. HPE OneView, Dell OpenManage, Lenovo XClarity).
- Aware of load balancing concepts and technologies.
