About the role
Node4 seeks a skilled Data Platform Consultant with technical expertise, business acumen, and excellent communication skills to deliver innovative data solutions. You’ll understand client needs, design and implement data architectures, and ensure high-quality data services that add business value. We work with diverse businesses, from fast-growing startups to large multinationals across various sectors. In the public sector, we deliver data implementation programmes for Central Government Departments, such as acting as the strategic data partner for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Our clients are mainly UK-based. The role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to client sites and our UK offices for team gatherings. We lead our customers on their journey from traditional reporting to discovery and intervention, using business data effectively and surfacing critical information in the right way at the right time, to drive better business outcomes. The successful candidate will be excited by a role in which new challenges are constantly presented for us to solve.
The data problems we solve are diverse and evolving, requiring skills to identify, access, explore and query various database platforms, including on-premises SQL databases, IaaS and PaaS SQL, cloud databases, and application APIs. The role demands strong, extensive data engineering skills to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into suitable repositories and models, collaborating with colleagues to solve each new problem.
Experience in Microsoft data analytics applications, particularly Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Services, is needed for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and presentation of impactful data repositories and models. The role mainly focuses on data platform and engineering workloads before visualisation/reporting, blending with our Analytics team to deliver holistic Data and Analytics solutions.
Along with these technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The role involves daily direct communication with clients while designing and implementing data solutions, requiring the ability to build rapport, understand and advise our clients.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility will be to participate in the scoping, design, documentation and implementation of Data Platform solutions to our clients in a client facing role, and your experience will reflect the necessary consultancy skillsets. Activities you would be expected to conduct include:
- Conduct workshops with our clients, working closely with your cross-functional colleagues, to understand and capture their solution requirements.
- Producing High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation, to capture client requirements and design the intended solution.
- Implement and configure the designed solutions in accordance with our design and implementation standards, with the support of senior and principal consultants in the practice.
- Provide technical authority in the course of project delivery, working constructively with our clients and project managers.
- Provide pre-sales support to our sales and marketing teams when required, including contributing to bid and tender responses.
- Provide technical assurance/governance to our clients.
- Work as part of a broader technical team delivering large multi-technology solutions to our clients, which will include Data and Analytics solutions.
What will you bring?
- 5+ years experience with the implementation of data and analytics architectures and data modelling.
- Experience of (and an appreciation of the importance of) writing high quality, detailed technical documentation.
- Demonstrable experience of working with Microsoft Data & AI products, such as Azure Data Services (Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake, SQL, Analysis Services), Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI.
- Experience of IaaS/on-premises equivalents of the above workloads is valid, such as SSIS, SSAS, SSRS.
- Databricks (desirable).
- Demonstrable experience of working with query languages within these workloads, such as Transact-SQL to a highly proficient level.
- Data transformation expressions in Data Factory/Synapse (desirable).
- Power Query M and DAX (desirable).
- Python; PySpark (desirable).
- Proven experience in a client facing data consultancy role designing, implementing, and supporting data solutions.
- Ability to lead business and technical discussions.
- Self-driven ambition to deliver excellence in collaboration with your team, with a drive and desire to learn and develop.
- Strong problem-solving nature, with the ability to examine a problem and involve the appropriate people at the appropriate time.
- Must hold or be able to successfully achieve and maintain Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV3) status, and national Security Check (SC) clearance.
Desirable Skills
- Hold or be capable of obtaining role-relevant Microsoft certifications such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Azure Data Scientist Associate.
- Experience with using Python for appropriate data engineering workloads.
- Experience with configuring and implementing Microsoft Purview as part of a data platform solution.
- Experience with delivering data solutions through Databricks, and configuring and implementing the Unity Catalogue.
- Knowledge/experience of Dynamics Business Central/NAV, Finance and SCM, and other Microsoft Business Applications database structures.
