We are seeking a committed and resilient Residential Youth Support Worker to join a dedicated team within a children’s residential home in East Sussex. Our home provides high-quality, nurturing care for children and young people aged 7–19 who have experienced significant trauma and are unable to live in foster care settings. Some young people may also have learning disabilities or additional complex needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment where young people can heal, develop independence, and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all residents
  • Support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges
  • Build positive relationships with young people, families, and professionals
  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and reviews
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
  • Support young people in developing life skills and independence
  • Plan and participate in activities and community engagement
  • Administer and record medication safely (following training)
  • Lead shifts when required and support junior or relief staff
  • Work flexibly on a rota, including sleep-in duties

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and young people (residential care, education, youth work, or similar)
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent – desirable
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
  • Ability to support young people with emotional, behavioural, and psychological needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people, families, and external agencies
  • Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly
  • Willingness to engage in therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
