Digital Services team.

Please note that while this role is classed as remote, there will be an element of office-based work in Sheffield once a week/a few times a month.

Reporting to the Group Director - Digital, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality services aligned with NOCN’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build working prototypes and proofs of concept at pace, so ideas can be validated with real users within days rather than months.
  • Take products beyond the prototype — ship, run and iterate real software in production, owning quality and outcomes.
  • Deliver across the full stack: React and Next. js front ends, Node functions, Azure hosting, and integrations that connect previously siloed systems.
  • Use AI tooling and agents (such as Claude Code) to accelerate delivery, automate routine work and focus human effort where judgement and creativity add the most value.
  • Work in continuous discovery with UX, data and business colleagues, holding the thread from user insight through to delivery.
  • Help set engineering standards and mentor others as we build our in-house capability from the ground up.
  • Contribute to a maintainable, sustainable technical foundation as NOCN takes greater ownership of its products.
  • Work pragmatically across a broad product landscape — internal AI and orchestration, digital asset management, public-facing learner tools, content generation, finance and customer support.

About You

  • Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Degree in Computer related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in modern web development, cloud, testing, AI tooling or related disciplines.
  • Experience of operating within an Agile / Scrum, discovery-led environment.
  • Proven full stack experience shipping real products to production, not just prototypes – front-end and back-end.
  • Exceptional use of AI tools and agents as part of the everyday development workflow - or clear evidence of being a fast learner with a strong desire to work this way.
  • Track record of building and validating prototypes and proofs of concept at speed.
  • Strong with modern web frameworks (React / Next. js), APIs, Node and cloud hosting (Azure or similar), plus databases and version control.
  • Builds with security in mind — mindful of authentication, common web vulnerabilities and handling personal and learner data safely (GDPR-aware).
  • Confident working with data and integrations that connect previously siloed systems.

How to prepare for a job interview at NOCN Group

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If NOCN Group uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
