Build the product engine. Don't just run someone else's. Six months in, here is the test: has the team moved from shipping features to deliberately solving the most valuable problems for our customers? That is the question this seat exists to answer.
This is a profitable, established UK B2B SaaS business with real customers, real revenue and a capable PM team. What it does not yet have is a product leadership layer that runs without the founder in the room. Too much of the decision-making still lives in their head, and the next phase of growth depends on changing that.
The market is specialist enough to reward depth. The customer base spans operational managers, commercial leaders, finance teams, planners and leadership, each valuing different insights. Real persona thinking is rewarded here, not packaged as a slogan.
The role at a glance:
- Translate market insight and founder context into a clear, differentiated roadmap the leadership team rallies behind.
- Lead and develop the existing PM team into a function with strong product judgement, not just strong roadmaps.
- Build systematic discovery and voice‑of‑customer processes across the distinct user personas.
- Introduce stronger product operating rhythms, prioritisation frameworks and modern tooling, including AI‑enabled workflows where they create real leverage.
- Partner closely with Engineering and Data & Intelligence leadership to translate strategy into delivered value.
- Reduce founder dependency in day-to-day product decisions by institutionalising judgement and decision‑making frameworks.
What you bring:
- A track record leading Product in a strong B2B SaaS environment, ideally one operationally complex rather than horizontally simple.
- A history of coaching Product Managers into stronger operators. You can name specific people and what changed in them.
- Strong methods for discovery, prioritisation, experimentation and product decision‑making, used in real situations rather than as theory.
- Commercial literacy. You understand retention, expansion and product‑led growth as outcomes you actively shape.
- Comfort working closely with a founder who carries deep domain expertise and active product intuition. You pull insight out, you do not wait to be briefed.
- A pragmatic view on AI. You can separate real product opportunities from hype, and ideally have shipped examples.
