Waste Collection Assistant in Grays

Job Description

As a Waste Collection Assistant your role is to assist the waste collection team with the safe and efficient collection, handling and disposal of household and commercial waste. The role involves maintaining cleanliness in public areas and ensuring waste is collected whilst aligning with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist waste collection drivers and loaders with daily collection duties.
• Collect and empty household and commercial waste bins into collection vehicles.
• Supporting the safe loading and unloading of waste vehicles
• Ensure waste is collected efficiently and according to the scheduled routes.
• Help maintain clean and tidy streets, public areas and collection points.
• Identify and report damaged bins, overflowing containers and missed collections.
• Separate recyclable materials where required.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report accidents, hazards, injuries or incidents to the supervisor.
• Work effectively as part of a team.
• Provide polite and professional customer service to members of the public when required.

Skills and Requirements

• Physically fit and mobile as the role requires you to carry out heavy manual labour and operate machinery safely.
• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Previous experience in waste collection or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
• Early morning starts may be required.
• Regular walking, standing, lifting and moving of waste containers.
