ABOUT NOAH'S ARK CHILDREN'S HOSPICE

We exist to help babies, children and young people with life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions, and their families, make the most of every day. Our mission is to enable those we support to enjoy life as children, not patients; as families, not just as carers.

Because everyone deserves to live life as themselves, beyond their condition or circumstances. We do this by listening to families. We know one size doesn’t fit all, so we cater our services to each individual person we support. We can do this from the point of diagnosis.

Our help is available wherever it is needed. Our expert staff and trained volunteers can provide support in a families home, in the community, or at our state‑of‑the‑art building, The Ark, in Barnet.

We work in collaboration with key NHS Trusts and other care providers to deliver the very best support to children and families. We have created a space where children with complex needs are accepted as they are, safe to play, explore, express themselves and build confidence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re expanding our team and are looking for more Nurses to join our charity. You’ll be joining an award‑winning, certified Outstanding team, who do all they can to empower children and families to experience as much life as possible.

As a member of the Noah’s Ark Nurse and Specialist Care team, you’ll be encouraged to put the experience of children and families at the heart of all you do. You’ll understand their care needs, learn what’s important to each child you support – such as their favourite song, preferred activities or what soothes them when they are sad – and focus on what children can do rather than their limitations.

By providing care either at our state‑of‑the‑art building, The Ark, or out in the community, you’ll create time for parents and carers to take care of themselves. Your hours of care will have a huge difference, allowing families to live life outside their child’s condition and giving them choice when it seems impossible.

You’ll join an experienced nursing team to deliver a 24/7, on‑call symptom assessment and management service for babies, children and young people both in The Ark and in the community.

Your commitment to children and families extends through to end‑of‑life care. You’ll be a reassuring presence, easing anxiety, working with other healthcare professionals to create comfort and support families in choosing the preferred place of care and place of death.

During this time, you’ll continue to treat each child and family as an individual by understanding what matters to them and help create memories that contribute to a good death.

A natural and experienced leader, you’ll deliver high‑quality training to team members and family members, and provide direct line‑management support to Band 5 Nurses and Band 3 & 4 Specialist Carers.

ABOUT YOU

With excellent clinical and communication skills, you’re either an experienced Band 5 Nurse with palliative care experience, ready to step up, or a Band 6 Nurse already working in the palliative care sector, or have prior palliative care experience.

You’ll have at least one year’s experience caring for children with complex care needs and experience managing a nursing team or supporting junior staff or support workers.

Leadership experience in a multi‑skilled team is required, or demonstrable leadership with the support of a lead nurse.

We look for individuals who share our core values of kindness, excellence and courage, and who will go above and beyond to support children and families.

You’ll thrive working autonomously, confidently delivering care on your own in the community, while collaborating with your team, other professionals and families to provide the best care.

Creativity and play will be central to your approach, allowing you to build long‑term relationships with the children and families you care for.

DBS

An enhanced DBS disclosure with Child Barring will be required for this post. Our recruitment checks, induction, ongoing support and supervision reflect our commitment to safeguarding families.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

We believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally. It is central to our charity’s mission. We ensure that no member of staff, or job applicant, is treated less favourably because of sex, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy, race, colour, nationality, ethnicity or national origin, religion, disability, gender identity or marital status. We are a Disability Confident Employer and will guarantee an interview to those candidates with a disability if they meet the minimum requirements of the role. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from under‑represented groups.

IMPORTANT

We are only accepting direct applications for this role.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, we advise you to submit your application as early as possible.
