No Guard Alone is a newly launched charity built to support those working as security guards/door supervisors, recognising the unique pressures they face and ensuring no guard has to carry their struggles alone. Frontline security officers protect venues, assets, and the public every single day. But who’s protecting them? The reality is stark:
- One in five people have considered suicide at some point in their lives.
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.
- Every single day in England and Wales 12 men die by suicide.
- Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.
- Most of those men, their families, their friends, even their GPs had no idea they were struggling.
In male-centric industries like security, the risks are four times higher. There are over 350,000 SIA licensed men under the age of 50 working in security across the UK. Some work alone. Many work nights. All are expected to deal with abuse, aggression and violence every day. For too long, male suicide in our sector has been treated as tragic, but inevitable. At No Guard Alone, we refuse to accept that. We are committed to changing this, ensuring that no guard ever has to face their struggles in silence and no manager will feel powerless to help. This is about moving from silence to support, stigma to systems, and isolation to community. It’s about redefining what strength looks like in our sector.

The Role
You will be the operational and strategic lead for No Guard Alone. This means you will:
- Develop and execute a business plan/strategic plan to deliver our mission.
- Build, manage and develop the operational infrastructure of the charity: governance, policies, procedures, volunteers, finances, risk management, compliance (Charity Commission, data protection etc).
- Lead fundraising, partnerships and income-generation strategies: secure grants, corporate sponsors, industry partnerships, events or training income to build sustainability.
- Deliver and oversee programmes: peer-support networks, training & awareness programmes, counselling or support services (as applicable), industry outreach.
- Act as public face of the charity: building industry relationships in the security/hospitality sector, representing No Guard Alone at events, raising awareness of the issues facing guards.
- Monitor and report on impact: set key performance indicators (KPIs), ensure effective evaluation.
The Person
We are looking for someone who:
- Has prior experience in a senior operational role in the charity sector (or start-up non-profit) - ideally leading or building a charity or support organisation.
- Has experience of fundraising, partnerships and income generation (grant funding, corporate sponsorships, events etc).
- Can manage operations, risk/compliance, budgeting and governance in a charity context.
- Has excellent communication skills, comfortable engaging with corporate and industry stakeholders (security/hospitality) and raising awareness of often-hidden issues.
- Is entrepreneurial, proactive, adaptable and comfortable working in a startup/grass-roots environment where you will wear many hats.
- Shares our passion for supporting those in the security sector, understands or is willing to quickly learn the sector dynamics, and has empathy for the unique mental health pressures on guards and door supervisors.
