Working in a Renal department within a hospital provides the opportunity to support patients with acute and chronic kidney conditions, including those requiring dialysis, transplant care, and long-term monitoring. It is a fast-paced and highly specialised environment where care is often complex and ongoing. The role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, to ensure effective coordination of clinics, treatments, and patient pathways. Renal services often require careful scheduling and communication due to the regular nature of treatments such as dialysis. This setting is well suited to someone who is organised, adaptable, and compassionate, with an interest in supporting patients who require continuous care and long-term management.

  • Act as the main point of contact between consultants, patients, GPs, hospital staff and external agencies.
  • Provide an effective and confidential secretarial and administrative service for consultants and clinical teams.
  • Handle telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries from patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Prioritise and action correspondence, investigation results and clinical communications.
  • Accurately transcribe clinical correspondence using medical terminology.
  • Maintain and update RTT pathways in line with Trust policies.
  • Manage waiting lists, referrals, appointments and clinic bookings.
  • Arrange urgent admissions and coordinate patient pathways.
  • Support meetings, take minutes and maintain consultant diaries.
  • Process leave requests and coordinate clinic or rota changes.
  • Obtain and maintain patient records, investigations and results.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and maintain patient confidentiality in line with Data Protection and Caldicott principles.
  • Register new patients and create patient records as required.
  • Assist with departmental audits and data management activities.
