The predicted salary is between 55300 - 64900 £ per year.

The appointee will be expected to carry out the whole spectrum of knee arthroplasty surgery managing their own elective practice, including outpatient, day‑case and inpatient procedures, as well as the full spectrum of trauma that is admitted to NNUH. The successful candidate will need to be competent in primary management of all areas of acute trauma, with support in specialist areas such as paediatrics & spines and referral of complex cases to colleagues with specialist interests.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out all aspects of knee arthroplasty surgery and manage your own elective practice.
  • Provide comprehensive trauma care, including the primary management of all acute trauma cases.
  • Participate in shared office space with other consultants in T&O at NNUH and provide equal support in terms of junior doctor and secretarial resources.
  • Engage in mentoring and training activities, as the Trust plans to incorporate formal mentoring into policy.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register with accreditation in Trauma & Orthopaedics via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights.
  • Compliance with Trust child safeguarding training requirements (within one month of taking up post).
  • Current ATLS provider certification.
  • Appropriate higher surgical qualification in orthopaedics.
  • Fellowship training in knee and revision knee surgery.

Experience and Training

Essential

  • Considerable experience in all aspects of general trauma surgery and own subspecialty orthopaedic surgery.
  • Significant participation in clinical audit, including successful completion of the audit loop.
  • Flexible outlook on working hours and a full driving licence with willingness to travel as part of the post.
  • Capability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team and shared office space.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and training of staff and trainees.

Desirable

  • Formal management training.
  • Post CCT trauma experience.
  • Presentation(s) at national/international meetings.
  • Publication(s) in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Formal teaching/training qualifications or a formal teaching post.
  • Evidence of supervision of projects presented at national level.
  • Audit publications or presentations.
  • Fellowship level training in trauma management.
  • Participation in deanery interview processes.
  • Enthusiastic attitude to training and willingness to engage with ICSP, OCAP, Training the Trainers / Teaching the Teachers course, or Clinical supervisors' course.

Audit and Governance

  • Evidence of significant participation in clinical audit, including successful completion of the audit loop.
  • Desirable: Audit publications or presentations.

Other Requirements

  • Flexible outlook on working practices.
  • Must live within a 15‑mile radius of the base Trust or within 30 minutes travelling time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues and support staff.
  • Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.
  • Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and respond to questions and queries.
  • Good presentation skills.
