This is a full‑time locum consultant appointment for a fixed term of 12 months in response to the resignation of previous staff. The successful applicant would join a team of 19 Consultants. Candidates should have a primary interest in breast, upper gastrointestinal (Upper GI) and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancers, although other interests may be accommodated. Due to the nature of these disease sites, the post would be well suited to a medical oncologist, although applications from clinical oncologists will also be welcomed.
The post holder will be joining a team of three clinical oncologists, one medical oncologist and a nurse consultant in the Breast Team, as well as one Upper GI/HPB Clinical Oncologist. Norfolk, and Norwich specifically, is a great place to live. The city supports a wide variety of cultural activities. The North Norfolk coast is on the doorstep, as is the Norfolk Broads National Park. The city also has some excellent schools and a thriving university with research and teaching links. The city is only 2 hours by train from the centre of London.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole‑time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group. All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy.
Some of the clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment. The post holder will principally be part of the Breast, Upper GI and HPB (or other as agreed) MDTs, with responsibility for delivering SACT (+/- Radiotherapy) at NNUH. Due to expertise within the department allowing for flexibility and internal reorganisation, applicants with an interest in other tumour sites are also strongly encouraged to apply.
The appointee would be expected to see approximately 300 new patients annually and to participate in an approximately 1:13 on call rota. The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust's Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
The appointee will be a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and be expected to serve on this committee. Further, the appointee will support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, whereby all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.
