We have an opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Specialist Bone Reference Laboratory team as a biomedical sciences support worker. The role will support the scientific and clinical teams in the NNUH blood sciences laboratories to deliver a highly specialised bone reference laboratory service for East Anglia.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualification: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with an interest in science.
- Experience in laboratory sciences and proficiency with Pathology IT systems at a high level of accuracy and speed are required.
Responsibilities
- Perform a range of routine and non‑routine tasks within the specialist bone assay laboratory and relevant laboratory areas.
- Obtain samples for biological testing and perform standard biological tests.
- Process blood and other fluids for analysis ensuring sample integrity is maintained at all times.
- Use Pathology IT systems daily to input patient demographic and test data accurately and swiftly.
- Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with the Trust and departmental policies.
- Booking in requests onto laboratory information systems.
- Performing maintenance tasks on complex laboratory equipment.
- Preparing samples for analysis, including processes on complex laboratory equipment.
- General laboratory duties such as pipetting, aliquoting and centrifugation of samples.
- Attaining and maintaining competency in a range of laboratory processes and procedures following standard operating procedures.
