Automation & Integration Engineer
£50,000 - £60,000 + Bonus & Benefits
We are looking for an Automation & integration Engineer to join an established technical applications team, working on the development and delivery of advanced automation and sensor-based solutions for manufacturing customers.
This is a hands‑on technical role, ideal for someone with a background in automation, system integration, machine vision, robotics, controls or applications engineering.
You will take projects from the initial application requirement through to solution design, testing, installation, commissioning and customer handover, working across sensors, robotics, automation, controls and software interfaces.
The Role
You will be responsible for developing complete technical solutions for manufacturing, inspection, measurement and automation applications.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing automation solutions using 2D and 3D sensor technologies.
- Translating customer requirements into practical system concepts, including sensor selection, mounting, measurement strategy, control interfaces and commissioning.
- Designing, building and testing proof‑of‑concept demonstrations, trial systems and customer‑specific solutions.
- Integrating sensors with PLCs, robots, machine control systems, industrial PCs, HMIs and data acquisition systems.
- Carrying out installation, setup, calibration, commissioning, troubleshooting and optimisation at customer sites.
- Working closely with technical and sales teams to assess feasibility and define project requirements.
- Producing technical documentation including system descriptions, test reports, commissioning notes and handover documentation.
- Supporting customer demonstrations, trials, exhibitions and application testing.
- Providing post‑installation technical support and fault finding.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in engineers who can demonstrate practical experience in automation or system integration, ideally within manufacturing, production, inspection, robotics or machine‑building environments.
You should have experience or knowledge of:
- Industrial automation systems.
- 2D/3D sensors, machine vision or inspection systems.
- Robotics integration, positioning, inspection or automated handling.
- PLCs and machine control systems.
- Hands‑on installation and commissioning.
- Sensor configuration, software tools, measurement systems and data outputs.
- Mechanical integration, including brackets, fixtures, alignment, guarding, cable routing and installation constraints.
- Fault finding across sensors, wiring, communications, control systems, software and mechanical positioning.

Package
- £50,000 - £60,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
- 5-10% performance‑related bonus.
- Company pension contribution, with employer contributions of up to 8%.
- Car allowance or company vehicle considered.
- Overtime/site allowance where applicable.
- Laptop, phone, mileage allowance and appropriate site equipment.
- Ongoing technical training across 2D/3D sensing, robotics, PLCs, vision and commissioning.
- UK and Ireland customer site travel, including occasional extended or weekend commissioning where required.
