Workshop Foreman


Salary: Β£24.00 - Β£26.00 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm
Shift: Permanent day shift
Employment type: Full-time, permanent


The Role


As Workshop Foreman, you will take responsibility for planning workloads, allocating jobs and supporting technicians on the workshop floor. You will play a key role in maintaining productivity, reducing downtime and ensuring excellent standards of workmanship across the department.



  • Supervising and coordinating the workshop's daily operations

  • Planning workloads and allocating jobs to technicians and apprentices

  • Monitoring progress to ensure work is completed safely and on schedule

  • Providing hands-on technical support with diagnostics, servicing, repairs and fault-finding

  • Inspecting completed work and maintaining high quality-control standards

  • Supporting, motivating and developing technicians and apprentices

  • Prioritising urgent repairs and helping to minimise vehicle or equipment downtime

  • Liaising with service advisors, parts teams, suppliers and management

  • Ensuring tools, equipment and workshop facilities are properly maintained

  • Completing job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation accurately

  • Promoting safe working practices and maintaining a clean, professional workshop


What We're Looking For


We would like to hear from experienced Workshop Foremen, Workshop Supervisors, Senior Technicians or skilled technicians who are ready to take the next step in their careers.


The successful candidate will ideally have:



  • Strong experience within vehicle maintenance, fleet, plant or a similar engineering environment

  • Previous supervisory or team-leadership experience

  • Excellent technical knowledge of servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs

  • The confidence to support technicians with complex faults and technical issues

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • A calm, practical approach to decision-making

  • Good communication and team-management skills

  • A strong commitment to safety, quality and compliance

  • Basic IT skills for updating workshop systems, records and reports


Qualifications



  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, IMI qualification, recognised apprenticeship or equivalent technical experience

  • A full UK driving licence is preferred

  • HGV/LGV, MOT Tester, forklift, plant or manufacturer qualifications would be advantageous
