An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Finance Manager to join a growing organisation and play a key role in driving commercial performance, financial insight and strategic decision-making. This is a highly visible role, partnering closely with senior commercial and operational stakeholders to provide financial analysis, challenge and guidance that supports profitable growth. You will take ownership of financial performance across a diverse commercial portfolio, helping to optimise margins, improve cost efficiency and support key business decisions.

As Commercial Finance Manager, you will act as a strategic finance partner, providing insight, challenge and decision support across commercial operations, sales, pricing, supply and logistics functions. You will be responsible for translating financial data into actionable recommendations, supporting business leaders with accurate forecasting, performance analysis, financial modelling and commercial insight. This role would suit a commercially focused finance professional who enjoys working closely with the wider business and influencing decisions that deliver measurable results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Performance & P&L Ownership: Own and manage financial performance across a commercial business area. Lead monthly reporting cycles, providing insight into revenue, margin performance, costs and operational drivers. Deliver meaningful variance analysis and identify opportunities for improvement. Support forecasting, budgeting and long-term financial planning. Develop a strong understanding of business drivers and opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Pricing & Margin Optimisation: Partner with commercial teams to improve pricing strategies and maximise profitability. Analyse market trends, customer profitability and margin performance. Evaluate commercial proposals, tenders, contracts, rebates and investment opportunities. Support decisions that improve business performance and competitive positioning.
  • Commercial Decision Support: Provide financial modelling and analysis to support key business decisions. Partner with sales and operational teams to assess customer profitability and growth opportunities. Support the evaluation of new initiatives, investments and business improvement projects. Provide insight to senior stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.
  • Cost Management & Operational Efficiency: Analyse operational costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Work closely with operational teams to drive cost control and process improvements. Support initiatives that improve productivity and commercial performance. Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance ways of working.
  • Governance, Controls & Risk Management: Maintain strong financial controls, reporting accuracy and governance processes. Support risk management activities including commercial agreements, customer exposure and financial controls. Ensure compliance with audit requirements and internal processes. Provide accurate reporting and insight to support effective business management.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Act as a trusted finance partner to senior commercial and operational leadership teams. Translate complex financial information into clear commercial recommendations. Support strategic planning and business development activity. Mentor and support junior finance colleagues where required.

About You

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Degree qualified in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in a commercial finance role.
  • Proven experience partnering with commercial, sales, operations or pricing teams.
  • Strong track record of providing commercial insight and influencing business decisions.
  • Excellent financial modelling and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of pricing, margin optimisation and profitability analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience using systems such as SAP and Power BI advantageous.
  • Commercially minded with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to challenge, influence and build strong relationships across all levels of the business.

Desirable Background

  • Ideally, you will have experience within the energy, fuels, refinery or petrochemical sectors, with an understanding of commercially driven operations and the complexities of supply, pricing and margin optimisation.
  • Experience working within a refinery environment or fuels-related business would be highly advantageous, particularly where you have partnered with commercial, operational and supply teams to drive performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Experience within other complex, asset-intensive or supply chain-led industries will also be considered.
