Demonstrating a real passion and deep interest in the financial services industry, our Consultants are responsible for developing insights, delivering high-quality project outputs, building client relationships and contributing to strategic consulting assignments.

As a Strategy Consultant at NMG, you will work on a variety of assignments that reflect the range of services we provide. Responsibilities include building financial models and undertaking financial analysis including market sizing, forecasting and business cases, in addition to contributing to NMG’s proprietary insights, which you will also leverage to generate analysis. The broad range of projects covered demands high-level skills in research and analysis along with exceptional client liaison abilities. You will independently manage multiple workflows, and produce exceptionally high-quality analysis, reports, presentations and written content. While most work is UK-based, there will be opportunities to support selected global engagements. Working within a small team, your contributions will be integral to our success and to strengthening NMG’s ‘information advantage’. High performers will benefit from a strong learning trajectory, broad exposure to other NMG divisions and a clear pathway towards subject matter expertise and career progression. This role is best suited to individuals who learn fast, think independently and are comfortable taking ownership of complex analysis and insight from early in their tenure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing financial analysis to clients for business strategy formulation and transformation plans based on market intelligence.
  • Building financial models including market sizing, forecasting and business cases.
  • Conducting external research, data gathering and analysing qualitative or quantitative data using a variety of methods and models.
  • Supporting NMG’s ongoing analytics studies and annual research programmes, which underpin our competitive advantage and enhance the effectiveness of our strategy projects.
  • Establishing structured analytical frameworks and performing complex quantitative analyses.
  • Producing high-quality reports, presentations and written outputs that combine analytical rigour with clear storytelling.
  • Undertaking client liaison and relationship management.
  • Contributing to proposals, pitches and thought-leadership development, including identifying opportunities for new business and developing appropriate strategies accordingly.
  • Utilising the collective expertise and resources across all divisions of the NMG Group in order to fully exploit our “information advantage” and improve the quality of our client offering.
  • Living the NMG values of Curiosity, Collaboration, Go for It, and Make it Count.

Projects will include the following:

  • Identification of New Markets: assisting the client to improve their understanding of market size and segmentation, profitability and competitive dynamics; identify key success factors and risks; and develop and implement the most effective market strategy.
  • Improving Business Performance: providing support to clients to identify the root causes of underperformance and devise the most effective response.
  • Ongoing Independent Market Analytics: providing participants across the value chain with an independent single source of truth across industry metrics such as market size, economic pools and forecasting overlaid with NMG house views for strategic decision making.

Your Experience

  • A relevant undergraduate tertiary qualification, additional qualifications valued.
  • 3+ years’ experience in financial services, preferably within wealth or asset management, insurance, or reinsurance.
  • Exceptional quantitative abilities, business modelling and analytical skills, including the ability to build, interpret and challenge financial, operational and market models, using data to support strategic decision-making while maintaining a strong understanding of commercial context.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn unfamiliar industries, business models and strategic issues, and apply that knowledge to solve complex client problems.
  • Comfortable working with incomplete information, developing reasonable assumptions, testing sensitivities and forming evidence-based recommendations under uncertainty.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high quality standards.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and organise workflows effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to engage with clients and present clear arguments.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Curious, flexible and learning-oriented.
  • A strategic and creative thinker who is highly self-motivated, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the industry, a positive attitude, energetic approach, curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in SQL and database management would be advantageous.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to support research, analysis, synthesis and content development. Demonstrates strong judgement in validating outputs, challenging assumptions and ensuring analytical accuracy.
