How do you make a difference? At SNCB, risk management and strong internal control are not just "check boxes": they are essential levers for advancing a complex, strategic, and transforming company. We are looking for a Senior Internal Auditor who can make a real impact. Your mission? Audit high-value processes, assess their risks, challenge the robustness of internal control, and drive change through concrete recommendations. You will work across a varied scope, from field operations to support functions (finance, IT, HR, etc.), closely aligned with the key issues that matter.

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you occupy a transversal role within the Internal Audit service. You will engage in complex missions covering all activities of SNCB and its subsidiaries. To do this, you rely on a high level of expertise in internal audit, in compliance with internal procedures and IIA standards.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Internal Auditor include:

  • Taking charge of planning, executing, and managing technically complex internal audit missions.
  • Structuring conclusions and writing clear, action-oriented audit reports.
  • Collaborating with auditees to define SMART action plans and ensuring their implementation follow-up.
  • Coordinating certain missions in partnership with specialised external firms, ensuring the overall quality of the work.
  • Actively participating in the development of the multi-year audit plan and risk assessment.
  • Analysing the quality of services provided by the Internal Audit department.
  • Playing an active role in the continuous improvement of the service by evolving methods, tools, and processes while sharing your expertise.
  • Assuming a mentoring role by providing functional guidance to less experienced auditors and supporting senior auditors when necessary.

Technical skills:

  • You hold a master's degree in economics or have equivalent experience.
  • You have at least 8 years of relevant experience in internal audit.
  • You master IIA standards, internal audit methodologies, and risk analysis.
  • You possess good writing skills.
  • You are proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and collaborative tools (Teams, SharePoint).
  • You have a good knowledge of Dutch. Certifications such as CIA, CISA, CISM are a real asset.

Behavioural skills:

  • You possess a critical, analytical, and synthetic mindset.
  • You communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • You are autonomous, rigorous, organised, and know how to manage priorities.
  • With a natural leadership style, you adopt a coaching posture.
  • You are diplomatic and capable of creating constructive professional relationships.
  • You demonstrate integrity, strictly respect confidentiality and the code of ethics.
  • You are flexible, proactive, and results-oriented.

Each person is unique. It is important for us that you can be yourself. This is what makes SNCB stronger. That is why we place great importance on diversity and inclusion.

What can you expect from us? Choosing SNCB means choosing an environment where you can learn and thrive. You will be supported and surrounded by great colleagues.

We offer you a salary package that includes:

  • An attractive salary, a flat-rate allowance, meal vouchers, and a collective and individual bonus.
  • A part of the salary is offered in the form of a flexible budget. You can opt for the rental of a bike, a flex car, reimbursement of pension savings, etc.
  • Hospitalisation insurance and group insurance.
  • Flexible hours, the possibility of teleworking, and 33 days of leave per year.
  • A train subscription in Belgium, discounts on international lines, and a bike allowance.
  • Family benefits such as discounts on family outings and in stores.

Where will you be working? You will work in Brussels, just a few steps from Brussels-Midi station.

What’s next? You apply online. We review your CV and cover letter with great interest, and if necessary, we contact you by phone to learn more. If we believe you have the desired experience and skills, we invite you to an initial meeting via Teams. This step is followed by a personality questionnaire and an interview with your future manager and colleagues. You will discuss the content of the position, the challenge, and the team you will be joining. Of course, your motivation, experience, skills, and vision for the role will also be on the agenda. This interview may be complemented or preceded by an assessment. Is everyone convinced? We send you a salary proposal!
