About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join our growing Network Operations team at the nLighten Milton Keynes Data Centre. In this role, you will deliver operational support across internal systems and customer managed services throughout Europe. You will work as part of a collaborative team, ensuring high availability, proactive monitoring, and efficient resolution of technical incidents across our distributed edge infrastructure. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically curious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where consistency, reliability, and process improvements are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Administration and Support
  • Manage and maintain Linux and Windows servers across internal and customer environments.
  • Provide second and third line technical support to operations teams and escalate as required.
  • Deploy, configure, and optimise server services, applications, and system components.
  • Perform system patching, updates, hardening, and routine health checks.
  • Monitoring and Incident Management
    • Monitor infrastructure health using tools such as PRTG and identify issues proactively.
    • Investigate and resolve performance, networking, or application related incidents.
    • Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
    • Participate in an on-call rota to maintain service availability outside standard hours.
  • Documentation, Collaboration, and Process Improvement
    • Document technical procedures, system changes, and customer configurations clearly and accurately.
    • Collaborate with European teams to ensure consistent service delivery.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across monitoring, automation, and workflows.
    • Assist in developing internal systems and reporting improvements.
    • Stay informed about relevant industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

    What We’re Looking For

    Experience and Technical Skills

    • Three to five years of experience working with Linux Operating Systems via command line is required.
    • Knowledge of virtualisation platforms, particularly Proxmox.
    • Understanding of networking fundamentals and familiarity with PRTG and Building Management Systems.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to derive insights from complex issues.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    Soft Skills

    • High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including customer facing interaction.
    • Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working with distributed teams.

    Education and Languages

    • Relevant technical certifications or equivalent hands-on experience.
    • Fluency in English required. Proficiency in another European language is considered an advantage.
