About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Energy Procurement Manager to lead our energy sourcing efforts across all European operations. In this critical role, you will manage complex procurement activities, negotiate supplier contracts, support sustainability initiatives, and ensure regulatory compliance in key markets including the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland. Reporting to the VP of Energy Operations & Sustainability, you will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including local Managing Directors, Operations Directors, and Finance teams to deliver impactful and cost-effective energy solutions that align with nLighten’s broader sustainability and growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Energy Strategy & Planning
- Provide expert input into nLighten’s long-term energy strategy, aligning procurement with operational goals and sustainability vision.
- Conduct strategic assessments of current and projected energy requirements across our European footprint.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sustainability Projects on forward-looking energy initiatives.
- Energy Procurement & Management
- Oversee energy portfolio management and procurement across multiple European markets.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships to secure competitive, reliable energy solutions.
- Negotiate energy contracts with a focus on risk mitigation, pricing optimization, and supply continuity.
- Support the negotiation of renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPAs).
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across all relevant jurisdictions.
- Act as the subject matter expert on energy procurement, advising senior leadership on key decisions.
- Customer Energy Solutions
- Develop and maintain standardized energy pricing templates for new business proposals.
- Support the development and approval of customer contract clauses relating to energy charges.
- Risk Management & Budgeting
- Maintain and refine the company’s energy risk management policy in collaboration with Finance.
- Implement robust risk strategies across electricity and gas portfolios.
- Prepare and manage energy-related budgets, providing regular updates to leadership.
- Analyze energy consumption data and provide insights on financial performance and trends.
- Manage collateral and credit requirements related to energy procurement.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Commerce, or a related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- 5+ years of experience in energy procurement, trading, or energy cost management.
- Deep understanding of European energy markets, regulations, and procurement strategies.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills with experience in contract negotiation and risk management.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex topics clearly to varied stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage supplier relationships and cross-functional collaboration.
- Fluency in English is required.
Nice-to-have skills
- Proficiency in French or German.
- Knowledge of Python and SQL for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with Salesforce and data management platforms.
- Familiarity with carbon accounting, sustainability reporting, and energy KPI tracking.
