About the Role

As an

IBM Z Technical Specialist – Db2 DBA , the primary responsibility is to design, administer, and provide support for database technologies, ensuring customer satisfaction through timely, high-quality delivery aligned to defined service levels, project schedules, and organizational standards.

The role requires maintaining and improving SLAs while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, standards, and security requirements.

The specialist will proactively identify automation opportunities, streamline repetitive processes, and implement solutions that drive operational efficiency and service excellence.

As part of a global support organization, the individual will leverage industry best practices to support diverse customer environments, maintain high service quality, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

The role demands strong technical expertise in IBM Z/Db2 infrastructure, collaboration with stakeholders, and participation in training and knowledge-sharing activities to enhance overall service delivery.

  • In This Role, You Will
  • Understand functional requirements and translate business requirements into technical database specifications.
  • Provide production support and release management for Db2 database environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain physical database structures and configurations.
  • Build, review, test, implement, and support application database releases.
  • Implement and manage RACF/ACF2 Db2 security rules, access controls, and authorization mechanisms.
  • Build and maintain High Availability (HA) and replication environments to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and support teams to deliver stable and resilient database services.
  • Support database migration, upgrade, and data conversion initiatives.
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide timely resolution of database-related incidents and problems.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-management capabilities to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide consulting services on database performance monitoring, tuning, capacity planning, and optimization.
  • Coordinate with development teams during project implementations and release cycles.
  • Participate in infrastructure modernization, technical initiatives, and data center migration programs.
  • Support database evergreen initiatives including upgrades, patching, and compliance-related activities.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Ensure adherence to ITIL processes, change management procedures, and organizational governance standards.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8-12 years of experience in IBM Z/Mainframe database administration with strong exposure to Db2.
  • Deep understanding of Db2 database architecture, administration, backup and recovery procedures.
  • Experience in production support and database release management.
  • Expertise in database performance monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of RACF/ACF2 security administration and access management.
  • Experience with High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and replication technologies.
  • Good understanding of ITIL processes, incident management, change management, and problem management.
  • Exposure to automation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong technical leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
